andreasaspenberg2: ipx wrapper is not neccesary, as the unofficial patch adds the ability to use tcp/ip. even the unofficial patch however does not fix the main problem. you have to run it as administrator in order to save in multiplayer. also to create multiplayer characters.
Not sure what "unofficial patch" is refering to but if it's DevilutionX then it doesn't need to run it as administrator.

i am referring to the patch and not the source port. the patch is called version 1.02 and it adds back multiplayer, which was removed in version 1.01. i have had it for a while however. as a results of it being in my posession for a while, i do not remember when i installed it. it was some time before 2019 i believe. in order to save in multiplayer, and also in order to create characters, i have to run it as administrator. it is an easy solution however.

i often play with the bard character and your sorce port does not support bard. we discussed this already however.

don't know if op asked about that originally or its from you but i followed the guide on devilutionx's github and put all the mpqs in the same folder as the mod and enabled all classes in settings and I believe im playing bard rn (female, swords in each hand, can use more magic than warrior, skill ability is identify etc)

DevilutionX quitted, it doesn't start any longer :-(

Hello,
I had some fun playing good old Diablo with this new open source port DevilutionX. But for any unknown reason the game doesn't start or won't start since the last few days and I haven't changed nothing at all. Instead of launching the game the screen switches the video mode for a second and I am thrown back at my desktop. I have changed my graphic device drivers because I had trouble with other games but that doesn't had affect to DevilutionX before. For my disappointment they don't have an email address on their website I've found with google. Only discord which I don't use for other personal reasons. I don't know what happened to the game it just doesn't start for any unknow reason.

Try running it from a command line with --verbose and see what information it gives you.

the expansion will not load without cd is there a workaround for this. diablo runs fine but hellfire will not load

I'm of cause biased, but DevilutionX lets you run Hellfire and makes it work a lot better as it includes all the bug fixes from Diablo 1.09 and also fixes the lighting an sync issues in hellfire dungeons.

there is external disc drives. i still have a disc drive myself but, the official release is not compatible with my operating system. the gog version included patches files in the dx folder that solves those issues.

on the other hand: you could just buy the game through battle.net.

Almost all of the fixes are taken from the community, you could do the same with your original disk version. The ddraw.dll wrapper that GOG provides is one they made them self, but there are plenty of community alternatives so unless you prefer theirs there is no real difference.

The one you get from battlet.net is missing most of the fixes and has no advantages over the GOG release, in fact you might not be able to run the game from the launcher there.

If you use DevilutionX it doesn't matter which version you have since it just reads the game data which is the same in all cases (including the Mac release).
