JFORTE77: It has already been confirmed that both Diablo II LoD and Diablo II Resurrected will be sold as different products. D2R is not going to substitute original D2 at all.
This will most probably be a single game, with the new graphics locked or unlocked based on the "product" you bought. Like they did for StarCraft and Warcraft Ⅲ.

avatar
JFORTE77: Furthermore, they also said during this Blizzcon that players will be able to execute the game without logging in with their Battlenet account.
I do not trust them on such announcements. They added artificial ties to their client for all their other games, despite said games not requiring it at all. I doubt they are going to do an exception here.
Now we're cooking! Give me those deets! Thanks for the info.

Right, and as a result original Starcraft I was released to download freely for the public whereas Warcraft III was substituted in Blizzard´s store. You´ll never know what will happen with the D2 LoD until D2R comes out. Time will tell. It´s good to be prudent about things, but being sceptical about Vicarius Visions without giving them just an oportunity is a bit too much. Playing through TCP/IP will be a thing, so I don´t know why Singleplayer would be different, although I see where are you coming from.

There's this dude on youtube named Rhykker, who is a Diablo enthusiast, and I saw him say in one of his videos that the original DII/LoD was going to be left alone.

At least, I thought that's what he said, but I could be wrong.

And of course, he could be wrong.

I played the original D1, D2 and LoD expansion, and D3 and it's expansion.

D1 was so original (to me) in so many ways (to me) at that time, and I'm happy to have won it with all three characters. Always nice to have around for nostalgia purposes (thx gog!), and maybe I'll play it again when my kid is older.

D3 was absolutely beautiful to look at... but somehow not as much fun. I won it as a Barbarian, but never liked it enough to play again with another character.

D2 was just awesome, except for the crappy graphics. When I played D2, I planned out three different builds for each of the seven characters, and I won it seven times, each with one of my planned builds of each character.

I for one am very, very excited about D2 Resurrection, and revisiting my planned builds that I never tried.

This video answers a lot of the questions posed in this thread. Nice little 16 minute video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YznK0ssoans

The video twice mentions that the original classic D2 and LoD will remain available, separate and untouched. So honestly, I don't see anything that there would be to complain about any of this.

After watching this video, I am positive that I will purchase Resurrected.

Feel free to trust a random YouTube video, and base your buying plans on that. I don’t ;)

But everything I'm seeing is saying the same thing. All indicators seem to indicate that it's Diablo 2 with better graphics. Is it really such a risky proposition?

No, it isn't.
After having seen a couple more snippets of actual gameplay I for one am strongly considering a purchase.
IF that "one-time legitimacy check" is an actual one-time authentication (during checkout or when downloading the installation files) and not, as it's more likely the case, a one-time authentication per session.

Cheers! Happy to spread the love man lol.

The second Diablo game... there is just something about it that is just so damn addicting. Besides playing off and on for, what, 20 years now, I've watched countless videos about this game, D2 is deeper than any action RPG has any business being imho.

I've always wished for three things with D2: more quests/story (I love the old Baldur's Gate games), more environments/acts (I love LoD), and of course modern graphics (with the same dark atmosphere).

It appears that Resurrection is gonna give us the third one. If the videos are to be believed, this graphics improvement sits on top of the base game, so it should have the same feel and play as the original (hopefully). Should be fun!

Yes, it is a risky proposition if you follow Blizzard track record instead of empty promises from random third parties ;) (and even Blizzard promises by the way, "Reforged" showed us how much trust we should put in that)

All of their remasters until now came with DRM ties into their mandatory client.
They actually never released a DRM-free game again after 2003.

So until I see a real proof that it is going to be any different for Diablo 2, I am going to assume they are going to follow the same methods than they did in the last twenty years. Meaning that this remaster is going to be the end of DRM-free Diablo 2.

Hey, I wish you are right, I am wrong, and we will keep a DRM-free Diablo Ⅱ ;)

This is one of the most played games in my whole gaming life, so I would love a good remaster I could enjoy!
While I prefer the graphics of the original game, I must say that it looks like they have done a good job trying to keep close to the spirit of the original in the remaster. It would be tempting to buy the remaster for the opportunity to play the game in multiplayer, without there beings lots of bots and hacks. Though I'm sure those things will come as the game gets older.

That's one of those things that people hate modern day battle net for. It's really good at keeping most cheaters out of Blizzard's games, afaik. Could be wrong, but I never hear of aim botting in Overwatch, whereas with CS:GO I hear about it every time I ask friends how it's come along.
