Hello there!

I only have one question: Will you ever add Diablo II + Lord of destruction to GOG ? plus make it win 10 compatible like Diablo 1?

I really want to buy this game.

Thank you very much.

Blizzard still sells Diablo 2 on Battle.Net and the latest patch makes it compatible with Windows 10.

I'm fairly certain the only reason GOG was allowed to sell Diablo & Hellfire is because Blizzard hasn't sold them directly for many years and had no interest in making a Windows 10 compatibility patch for them.

I don't believe Blizzard sells any of their games on other platforms that they still sell themselves.
Dear Ryan333!

Thank you very much for answering me.

so, it is possible that Blizzard finishing selling the game than GOG will be allowed to continue selling the game in the future?

sry for bad English :(

Anything is possible. But I don't think it will happen any time soon.

First, Blizzard updated Diablo 2 to run properly under Windows 10. Their main reason for doing that was so they could keep selling the game.

There are also rumors of Blizzard making a Diablo 2 remastered edition, as they've done with Starcraft and Warcraft 3. Even if Blizzard is only thinking about the possibility of doing a remaster, it makes since for them to keep the game in their own store until they work out whether the remaster would be a patch, expansion or new product - and how that would work for existing owners of the game.

By the way - if you buy the game through Blizzard's online store you'll get a CD key plus an offline installer for the game. The installers are DRM-free, other than needing to type in your CD key. And you don't need an internet connection unless you're playing on the Battle.Net servers. If GOG ever sold the game, I imagine it would be exactly like this. If you really want to buy the game, go get it from Blizzard - it's still supported, runs fine under Win10, has an offline installer and runs standalone without the new Battle.Net launcher/client.
It's unlikely they'll add it to GOG but never say never. Rumors have a D2 remastered version coming in 2022, so if that actually launches, I'd expect OG D2 to come here.
Adding Diablo 2 on GOG would need reworking the installation method. Diablo 2 installers require entering CD keys for both base game and expansion, and GOG installer does not support that. Instead it will require a configuration tool in order to put the keys there.

I know that, because I have the 1.12a installer, patch 1.14d and PlugY 14.01 (recently updated - the newest version is finally compatible with the latest patch!).

Thanks for the news! I've been waiting for an update of PlugY for years!
It is possible Blizzard working on Diablo 2 + LOD remastered edition :O ? I never heard about it. I really hope they will remaster it :) Thank you for the info :)

Mostly rumours right now, but don’t hold your breath for a DRM-free version ;P
I just found how Warcraft 2 on GOG handles CD keys. It has a launcher (similar to Diablo 1), but with additional option called "Change CD Key".

That means Diablo 2 + LoD could use the exact same solution - you could install the game with GOG installer and later enter keys in proper place (but only if you want to play on Battle.net - for single player this step will not be required anymore).

Now it up to Blizzard to release the game on GOG. However, as mentioned above they would need to allow installing the game and single-player gameplay without entering CD keys (currently this isn't possible).

This would not be an issue for Diablo 2 either, GOG sells multiple games using CD keys. Usually a default one shared between all GOG users is setup, and you can replace it by a personal key that you can get from your account.

In my opinion, the real issue is not the CD key or anything like that, but their mandatory game client. Especially for a game heavy on multiplayer like Diablo 2.

Just chiming in, there is no game client for Diablo 2, and never has been. The servers are battle.net servers, and always have been.

There has never been any sort of client required to run the game. The installers you get off the b.net website are standalone installers, similar to GOG. If you don't care about cd keys, you can buy D2 from Blizzard right now instead of waiting, and once you set it to run in a window, it works with Windows 10 flawlessly, and from what I remember out of the box with 7/8.

If it comes to GOG I'll rebuy it so Blizzard brings more games here, but I suspect any of their newer games will be online only, such as the remastered version rumored to be coming out next year.

Really? I thought it had been linked to the Blizzard client at the same time they did it for both StarCraft and Warcraft 3, but I might be misremembering. Since I've downloaded my DRM-free installer years ago, I've not been back to my Battle.net account since then.

But if they remaster it, we can expect both the remaster and the base game to get tied to their client. That's what they did for the previous games, I see no reason why they would switch back to DRM-free only for this one.

Yeah :) No worries it gets confusing with Blizzard games. The only requirement for D2 right now is a cdkey to install it, and if you play online, playing on the b.net servers.

Getting it to work on Win 10 is really easy too. And you're 100% right, the remaster will need an online client. They already confirmed Diablo 4 will be online only for pc.
