Realpsojed: I'm only reacting to what you write. Each level != a level. Here's what you wrote:
"The author even tells you that you have to replay each level many times..." lumin: It wasn't even close, I was getting my butt handed to me on level 7 of the Catacombs over and over again. The author even tells you that you have to replay each level many times until you are not losing many potions before progressing to the next. So it's much more than just "multiplayer is much harder than singleplayer", as you say. The Hell is a grind by design.
Realpsojed: There's at least 23 levels of difference between "a level" and "each level". If you don't know the difference, consult a dictionary. "The author even tells you that you have to replay a level many times..."
What is the difference between these two statements? As I said before you're just nitpicking. You're offended that someone is criticizing Belzebub and The Hell and so you're focusing on something ridiculously unimportant to the conversation. Keep it up, you're not helping your argument.
lumin: I said in my original post: "A word of warning on The Hell. It gets hard, like really, really hard." How is that sentence really different from what he says here? Seems like you're arguing for the sake of arguing. I use "exponentially" as a figure of speech, not in a literal sense. I didn't pull out my calculator and do math. If you want to nitpick like a bitch, go ahead.
Realpsojed: You never played The Hell in Singleplayer, so you have no clue how the mod actually plays. The Hell is primarily a singleplayer mod. The author's quote confirms it - "Playing The Hell in multi-player alone will be almost impossible sometimes." - and you just confirmed that you played The Hell in multiplayer, alone. Your opinion on the mod basically doesn't matter, because you actually didn't play the mod. Also, I think multiplayer is one of Diablo's greatest strengths. This was probably the most revolutionary mechanic it included when it came out. The fact that these mod developers can't functionally include this feature in the game is big problem. It shows the amateur quality about them.
Also The Hell needlessly changes some features in the game that didn't need to be changed. Like moving the Witch. I thought it was great where she was, away from the rest of the town. Now this "hermit" is living next door to everyone? That breaks some of the immersion for me. Also, a big one is that they removed the loot drop on death feature. This was one of my favorite things about Diablo and really upped the tense feeling in the game.
Also, you'll notice that many of the neat early items have been removed from the game. The loot tables have been really screwed around with in The Hell and things don't drop like they used to in the original game. For example, I never found a Sabre or a set of mail during my playthrough. The latter is weird because usually I'm seeing mail armor by around character level 15.
In many cases it seems like the author changed things out of personal opinion. The Skeleton King is also gone from level 3 and moved to level 21. Again, more stupid Multiplayer decisions. Why screw with this stuff?
Realpsojed: Yeah, playing something that its own author labels as "impossible to play", usually is impossible to play. I'll repeat it again. Play The Hell in singleplayer.
How about you play The Hell in multiplayer? At this point I'm starting to believe that you're openly lying. I think single-player is just as difficult in single-player as multiplayer and you're just trolling everyone. Please, everyone, don't listen to this troll. Do NOT play The Hell mod. It sucks, it's awful. It's horribly balanced. Stick to Diablo + Hellfire. This is the best experience you can get in the game. Unlike these stupid mods, multiplayer actually works, is balanced and is FUN! :)
Hit me up and I'll play it with you on Hamachi.
