Hi folks, I've installed Deus Ex GOTY and modded it with GMDX and I've noted that, in certain points, the level design has been modified. I'm saying that because from time to time I get stuck and need to use videogameplays to go forward in the game and some cameras weren't where the videos showed, guard patrol, item locations and so on. Am I the only one to have this subtle differences? I picked up GMDX instead of Deus Ex Revision because I read somewhere that the gameplay and level design were altered and, since I never played DE back in 2000, I wanted to play the original DE experience.

I haven't played it myself but GMDX is supposedly a massive overhaul of the original maps, balance and game mechanics. You should expect the 'large scale modification' to be different from the original game.

This is from GMDX description on ModDB: "GMDX is executed with the strict parameter of staying true to the original design principles that define Deus Ex, and seeks to improve all aspects of design excluding the plot and soundtrack. The cumulative result is said to be the "definitive Deus Ex experience".

Guess I have a different idea of what "overhaul" stands for...

"Staying true to the original DESIGN PRINCIPLES" does not mean it's the same game, only that it has been designed with the same mindset as the original development team, ie they haven't changed what the game is about or the general feel. Most everything "excluding the plot and soundtrack" has been altered.

Overhaul is indeed the right word for it: The whole game has been given a fine touch.

There are changes to the level design, but it's not as extensive about that as Revision is. >_>

Nergal01: There are changes to the level design, but it's not as extensive about that as Revision is. >_>
I know, that's why I picked up GMDX instead of Revision. But sometimes strange things happend, for example one time I tried to bypass a laser wall with a multitool but I only managed to bypass another one up ahead, not the one I needed to pass through. That's why I was asking.

Bugs like the mixed up lasers should be reported to CyberP at www.moddb.com/mods/gmdx The mod is an ongoing work in progress so he fixes issues like those as they crop up.

Frankly, Dues Ex doesn't really /need/ any gameplay mods to enjoy. The few bugs left over after the official patch are minor and the mechanics are designed well enough to keep this title in some people's "favorite game of all time" list fifteen years after its release. The only gameplay mod I recommend for people who want to play as a purist is the Deus Ex v2 unofficial patch (http://www.moddb.com/games/deus-ex/downloads/deus-ex-unofficial-patch-v2). It focuses on addressing the minor bugs I mentioned above without altering the maps or gameplay mechanics.

That said, GMDX is still a very good mod that introduces a lot of new features that weren't available in the original game and is worth playing.
