TL;DR: Steam version barely works on Win10, but does the GOG version work?

I'm currently attempting to play Deus Ex: Invisible War on Steam and it's only barely functional. Every loading screen, the game freezes and I have to end the game through my task manager and wait for it to bring itself back in zombie-like fashion to load into the next area. This is making it almost impossible to play the game properly, since most loading screens end up taking longer to get through than the actual area takes me to get through.

I recently read someone say that the copy of the game this website sells actually works properly, unlike Steam, so I'm considering buying it here, but I'm not sure if I can trust one post on the Steam forums.

Does anyone else here play this game on Windows 10, and if so, does the game have any issues that make it nearly unplayable?

I've been trying to play the GOG version, it's worked in the past but now it is not working for me

Just tried it, and at least for me, it works.

I believe this issue is entirely down to individual computers and that there is no difference between the games sold on Steam and GOG. This problem has been around since 2003 on XP. I'm not sure if it is just an unfortunate combination of drivers or some settings in windows, or even some other programs or anti-virus disrupting the loading sequences.

The game is really strange in that it minimizes or even closes (I forget which) the game application in between levels. Normally it should happen so quickly without interruption you don't notice, but others are unfortunate in that the game minimizes to the system tray.

Coming to think of it, are you running some sort of video capture software like "Raptr" (comes with ATI/AMD chipsets)? You may not be aware of having them, I was surprised by them too when I built this computer earlier this year. I'm thinking they may break during the strange load sequence.

I don't seem to have any such processes running, but thank you for giving your input, before I risked buying a second copy of the game just based on what someone over on the Steam forums said. I'll hold off on buying it for now and continue to research a way to deal with this issue.

Whoa, hey, I didn't say anything for certain. I don't own the game on steam so I can't compare. My GOG install works on my windows 10 rig however. I'm just saying this problem has existed for some users across several operating systems, it is hard to tell why that is.

I'm also only speculating that there is no difference between Steam and GOG. I've never heard of a hack/fix that could have been implemented by GOG, so I assume they haven't modified the game to increase stability. I could be wrong and GOG put in the extra effort to fix this severe flaw.
