I see that the version on ModDB has been updated to 1.0.1 (and will likely be updated again to 1.0.2). Anybody knows if the executable is updated or is it only the data files? I.e. is the unDRMed Revision.exe posted by MrTrigun a few days ago will work or does it need to be updated too?

"Ultimately neither the Revision team nor Square Enix owes you anything - you bought a game 15 years ago, and you can still play it, that's the extent of the "contract". A bunch of guys decided to put a shitload of work into something, and then they decided they'd release it on Steam and nowhere else - their prerogative."

For what it's worth, Deus Ex: Nihilum would never even be considered for a Steam exclusive DLC since it's completely unprofessional compared to the work of art and craftsmanship that DXREV is. :P

This "developers don't owe you anything" argument has its merits, but it's not really all the story.
Suppose a developer teased you about an amazing pair of shoes, then on launch day told you they were only available in size 9 and below.
While it's true that they don't owe you anything, I'd say it's perfectly reasonable to feel upset because you've been lied to.
They told you that they were bringing it out for you, but then at the last minute tacked on a bunch of unnecessary conditions, without any mention of why those conditions were present, or what the reasoning was for suddenly adding these conditions.
So, if I understand well, in order to play Revision, I need to dl the standalone version on the moddb page; i,nstall it in my DEus folder and then replace the Deus.exe by the Revision.exe from Kentie ?
Yeah, Im not a computer guy...

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

First, download and install Revision from its ModDB page. At the end of the installation, uncheck the option to register it on Steam.
Then, you have two possibilities:
1) replace Revision.exe by Kentie's launcher by renaming it;
2) use the Revision.exe without DRM posted by MrTrigun a few days ago (see first message at the top of the page, it's quoted)

The second option is probably the best as you'll have the real Revision menus (there are some options you can't change through Kentie's launcher) but I'm not sure if it's independant of the mod version, in which case the .exe posted above is for v1.0.0 and the mod is already 1.0.1 or 1.0.2.

It works with the EXE posted above running version 1.0.1.0. Even running it with Wine works for Mac users. I'm using the wrapper from paulthetall.

Yes, technically, it works, but I'm not sure if it does not bring back the bugs fixed. I.e. is it only a launcher?

The executable is unchanged. I just confirmed it; the patch-only download (to install overtop an existing Revision installation) does not contain a new .exe.

Right here's the reason why the Steam thing really sucks: Wine. Wine users rely almost completely on a disc install with a noCD patch or the version bought here.

You pretty much have no choice but to use the standalone version, and you're not going to be using the Steam version either way unless you run Steam itself on Wine. That tends to be a pain in the butt, so by far the easiest way to play it unless you're a bootcamp user or like throwing money in the fire is the workarounds.

(Sidenote: It's dead easy to run Deus Ex in Wineskin without a wrapper if you don't feel like downloading/updating these through a separate frontend for El Capitan. It's blank wrapper creation, install, set screen settings, and run. If you don't like OpenGL install DirectX with Winetricks.)

So is this worth it? I love Deus Ex, but I'm no veteran. I guess I'm just wondering what changes were made to the game besides new textures. I don't mind the original graphics, Unreal Engine is my babby, haha. So any other perks to it?

The actual new feature of Revision is substantially updated maps. Some of them are moderate changes (Liberty Island and Battery Park have been rearranged a bit), some are minor (Tonnichi Road barely looks different) and some are substantial (Hells Kitchen is huge, the Hong Kong market district is actually split into two maps now and the Paris levels and pretty much everything after Paris are almost completely redone).

The new textures are actually part of the "New Vision" mod, which were incorporated into the overall Revision package. Revision actually incorporates several other existing mods (with permission from their creators) such as Project HDTP, Shifter, Biomod and Human Renovation. Some -- though not all -- of these features are optional and can be turned off (Shifter and Biomod in particular must be turned on or off before starting a game, as saves with one of these enabled are not compatible with saves made without them).

I personally enjoyed the new map structures; they keep the size and openness of the maps while making them seem less barren. Be aware, however, that the more significant changes are in the levels in the latter third of the game.

Additionally, using the leaked non-Steam executable linked earlier in this discussion, I was able to play through the entire game from start to finish.

Ah, I see, thank you. So I guess... cough cough, I should complete vanilla Deus Ex first! Haha, I haven't ever gotten that far into the game and I think it's time for round 3! I still love it though.
Be aware that the latest Revision patch (1.0.1.2) does include a new executable. You'll need to make sure to retain your old executable after applying it (whether the kentie exe or the leaked one).

This means that you won't get some of the fixes (I'm not sure which are tied to the executable) but you'll still get anything related to map bugs (the patch fixes a significant geometry bug in the Brooklyn Naval Yard map) fixed, along with whatever else was part of files other than the executable.

I've verified that the game still works after applying the patch and restoring the leaked .exe.
