I've read several threads already pointing it out, will GOG look at the hardware compatibiltiy for this game? Really loved this as a kid but it's unfortunately lagging at 1 fps (literally) and is unplayable... :(

Thanks GOG / community members!

Same here. Win 8 x64 with Nvidia 670. Bought it yesterday and it's a slideshow. Tried a number of things mentioned in forums and nothing worked. Does anyone with Win 8 x64 have this working?

Which one? They are two Desperado games and only one is listed with Windows 8.

You guys do understand that Microsoft made a conscious decision not to support older games with Win8, right?

I'd like the details on that, please. More than likely they updated or replaced something creating an unintentional incompatibility. But thanks for your helpful advice.

Too long ago to remember the source of the article or even who at Microsoft was interviewed but the page below is at least helpful in solving some of the problems: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-run-old-games-software-in-windows-8/
I tried everything and it stil has 1fps, graphic problems or mouse problems.. So frustrating :(
Hi,

I found this in the Steam Forum. Works great for me:

This works only when you put the 3 DLL Files to your "Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive/Game/" Dir

written by fxb:

1. Go to h ttp:/ /bitpatch.com/ie_ddrawfix.html and download "ie-ddrawfix.zi p" (top of page)
2. Unzip "ie-ddrawfix.zip"
3. Navigate to the "ddrawfix\wined3d" sub-directory
4. Copy the 3 DLL files to your "Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive" directory (ddraw.dll, libwine.dll, wined3d.dll).
5. Start the game. Performance problems should be fixed!

I hope this works for you too.

Please remove the Spaces in the Link. GOG dont let me post links :(

This solved a lot of the frame rate issues for me, but now things such as the hud/toolbar and certain things like the train in the beginning stage have all but disappeared... You can see a little outline of them. The game is playable now, but it's frustrating not having it work right. I have an old XP machine that I might have to try if we can't figure this out.
