I really like the Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive soundtrack, but the quality of the audio files is so horrible. Did they ever officially release the soundtrack on CD or as a download in a better format?

Even the FLAC files?
Have you checked the installation folder? The music and the dialogues are all there as MP3.

The original files that come with the game are PCM WAVs; unlike normal WAV files, these are very lossy codecs that distort the upper frequencies. The FLAC files that come with the GOG version have been encoded from these game files, so they are equally noisy.

The only source I can think of that would have better quality would be a CD release of the soundtrack, but I am unaware of one. I was hoping someone else had heard of a release.

I'm not aware of a collector/special edition. Spellbound has been shut down, some of their former employees have moved to Black Forest Games, you may want to try there.

I think your best bet would be to contact the two composers directly. I'd try it myself, but event though I'm working on my German proficiency right now, I'm not fluent enough to serve as a middleman.

Hey drasticontrast,

did you write to the two composers? I did last week but didn't get an answer yet. I am German and wrote in German but maybe they don't check their mails so often. I would love to hear that soundtrack in cd quality :))

I have not contacted them. When things settle down on my end, that sounds like a good move to make.
Well, it's certainly taken a while for things to settle down, but I've just sent an email to Giovanni; we'll see how that goes. Melodo, did you ever hear back from either of them?

Have you two heard anything back from them? 110kbit/22050Hz MP3 is quite a horrible experience, considering the Nyquist criteria.

Not a word. I know it's a first world problem, but I'm bummed about the ether into which this soundtrack has slipped. There's just nothing out there. Even the bottomless pit of the wayback machine has turned up nothing.
I played Desperados alot. So I can point out the music from the game whenever I hear it and I heard it on TV (usually in the news and morning shows) quite a few times. So I concluded that it's a stock music, guys. If it's true there's no point in expecting it released separately on CD. Anyone can buy it and use it, there's no exclusive rights. And it makes sense, they were a small team, don't think they could afford a professional composer
