How do you get into the fortress after taking out all he sheriff and his soldiers in the town. The door is locked and it won't let Doc pick it. What did I miss?

Glad I didn't use that one stick of dynamite for anything else. I've been kind of stuck any way. Still trying to find way to get that noose cut without the deputy killing me with one shot.
