Hi - we're all familiar with the "motorboat" sound crash. I decompressed my sound files and I don't get that crash during the game any more -

However - I am getting a very similar crash during any cinematic playing. Same sound loop behavior, etc. Good old Bink video player! I hate it. I know I can look at the cinematics on Youtube or whatever but I would prefer to be able to see them as part of the game. I don't know of any way to 'decompress' the .bik files to prevent this from happening.

I tried ddwrapper, but without knowing what settings to use in the cfg file, I couldn't get the game to run at all while using it.

Windows 7 64 bit.

Any love?

If you want to experiment with the Bink videos, download The RAD Video Tools and re-compress them to your liking. Start the Rad Tools, select the bik file and click on "Bink it!". There you find all options for the new bik. I've tried a basic re-compress and the game plays the video without any issues.

Hmm ... I tried recompressing using default settings ... now the cinematics play fine but with no sound. :(

The problem is, that the new RAD Video Tools are using a newer audio format by default, which the game isn't able to play. There's a trick how you can still encode a file using the old format. When you're within the "Bink it!" options, add 100 to the current audio "Compress level". By default it is set to "4", so change it to "104" and re-encode the file. In the RAD Video Tools main page there's a button "File info". If you check the original video, you'll see that the audio track shows "(Old format)". If you use the compression level trick, the new file should show this info as well.
(I tested it with infrogrames.bik)
