Two wins for me so far. Going to probably try Halfling Priest with Naga Cauldron soon.

Info about gods, items, etc available on the very polished wiki: http://www.qcfdesign.com/wiki/DesktopDungeons/index.php?title=Main_Page

Oddly enough, I can't find any gameplay footage for the Gorgon class. :-/

Elven Warlord

My first win on Naga City was mostly copied from JayPlaysGames:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ77e5Nt9-E

Prepared Mystera for extra mana pool.

Schadenfreude, Whupaz, Reflex, Quicksilver potions.

Fireballs on Tower of Goo. Lots of Cydstep, but Burndayraz is clearly easier when it's just enough for a kill.

I did not get Refreshment for some reason. Piety was hard to come by. I also converted a lot early anyway and collected a lot of items for damage. A late conversion with Refreshment could have easily meant three extra Cydsteps, though, so look into that.

I think I took a pact, but it probably wasn't worth it.

Orcish Berserker

Taurog makes it possible to regen fight many bosses without using poison just by outscaling the bosses, but a conversion to Glowing Guardian is AFAIK the only way to deal with 75% physical resistance on the Tower of Goo boss (who also has lots of health). Between the four Taurog items and the Prayer Beads from 2-3 Cleansing buffs (for magic strike on Tower of Goo), inventory management can be a headache; I had to get Yendor *before* Keg of Health because I was out of small item spaces with just one large slot left. Glyphs were only used on the first floor, during which time I stuck to just a couple Taurog items. Mostly just Getindare was used.

The upshot to GG, though, is that Humility can help you regain your class %damage bonus against late in the game. GG doesn't give out much piety when you convert late and converting religions wastes half your piety, so I found it necessary to use Consensus (Pactmaker) to get my Humilty boon.

Inventory management is a headache for sure. I prepared a Compression Seal and an Alchemist's Scroll, and of course Perseverance Badge - this way everything is either tiny, or continues to grant its full benefit post-conversion. Quicksilver, Whupaz, Reflex, and Health potions. Taurog prepared, convert to GG when it becomes necessary to fight Tower of Goo. Attack boosters prep as well for tons of damage scaling. Bet on boss.

During exploration phase, I lucked into an early Dwarven Gauntlets. I tried to remember to take one mana potion per level before leveling (unless I needed a Health potion instead) for the Alchemist's Scroll. I got boxed in and was forced to waste Reflex Potion just to move forward, and I was forced to buy a Burn Salve when I was boxed in by red goos, as well, but the Alchemist's Scroll was happy enough in that case. The loss of Reflex Potion hurt, though.

Bosses were alright. I was able to time level-up heals to get rid of poison. Mana burn was irrelevant, and there were more low-level monsters than I had Curse stacks.

With a ton of health and damage, and pretty good resists, I was able to take down the last boss using only exploration and attacks. It was a lot easier than my Warlord final boss fight, but I did just barely scrape by a few mini bosses. I never had to desecrate, but once Aquiatas is gone, you don't really need MR that badly, and you could desecrate Binlor as a last resort; maybe Tikki Tooki. I didn't have to do either, but I had a couple close calls - I blame the Reflex Potion.

EDIT: Finally won with a third class. It wasn't easy!

Finally got third win, using Halfling Priest with Naga Cauldron. This was pretty tricky, and I can't guarantee I can replicate it. But I've gotten better at least. What's really weird about Naga Cauldron is that I can't imagine anyone *other than* a Halfling Priest using it. *Maybe* some other priest, like a Dwarf or Human. I mean, if you don't have Good Drink boon, then the cauldron overheal is likely to be mostly wasted, unless you need to land a hit on a boss who does 80-110% of your max HP as damage... Anyway, Halfling Priests have obvious synergy that make this goofy item work, though you have to work hard to get your damage up.

I went with Taurog, but I only took Blade early and farmed piety. Gylphs are just too useful, I found after a few failed runs. This time I spawned Armor in Floor 2 when I had expendable money and piety, and I think I spawned the Helm for Aquitas the mage. Every Taurog pickup was a tough choice, and often boss fight order came down to deciding whether I wanted a Keg, a Yendor, or a Taurog item. Getting the shops cleaned out early made Taurog more useable.

An early Balanced Dagger helped me save potions by being at a higher level when I entered the boss room. 7 with a level up ready to go, IIRC.

I used Apheelsik and Burndayraz a lot in the boss room, safely enduring the penalty. Tower of Goo spawned early, and Byceps + Apheelsik was actually enough to do it with just a potion or two. Excess mana went into fireballs. Luckily, Meatman was a separate wave, and he was a good candidate for further poison fighting.

Near the end, I had to convert to Earthmother to get rid of two Curse stacks from Tomithy Longdall. I had two more health potions left for the last fight, and less than 50 piety. Saving my health potions for when I wouldn't be cursed, I used up my piety on Death Protections before going Consensus --> Earthmother to remove curses, spawn plants, and stack Vine Form, leaving emergency piety for Clearance if needed. (I'm pretty sure you can only spawn plants for bonus piety once, and you want to have barely enough piety for Plantation when you do). With a couple potions left and good magic resistance, it was easier than I thought it would be. Just wore him down to 0 with health potion fighting, after which it became a lot easier - for each of his Death Protections, I could easily explore enough to heal faster than he could take an extra hit. I had 0-1 health potions left afterward. I forget.

I endured a few derps, too. Wasted fireballs on an enemy I ended up using Can of Whupaz on. I also wasted a fireball or two on an enemy who ended up healing it anyway. I think I converted Burndayraz to get an extra Death Protection when I was better of saving it for post-Earthmother Death Protection removals (and a later conversion to still get the health potion at the last minute). I had some black space and some leftover gold for desecrations if needed, but not much else extra. I probably could have converted a little more for an extra health potion too. This class/gods combo is probably consistently doable overall, but I'm not exactly there yet.

Unlocked class: Gorgon
Gorgon is pretty oddball in a lot of ways, but overall, a really cool multi-class Binlor poison monk sort of thing. Dwarven Gauntlets rock. (Martyr Wraps might be an option, but Dwarven Gauntlets are probably better overall.) Death Gaze isn't the same Death Gaze that your enemies have, oddly enough. The wiki says that when you attack an enemy below your deathgaze%, you get a free first strike doing only your base damage which is not subject to resistances - this seems about right as far as I can tell.

Knockback, stoneskin, fireballs, poison (on-hit!) and deathgaze can make for some fairly finnicky last-hit scenarios, but the available leverage is rather plentiful quite real overall.

It's not really a very popular class. Not bad, mind you, just not really popular.

My first Naga City victory was so long ago that it's really no longer relevant. All the deities I used have been completely overhauled since then, the item I prepped has been nerfed dramatically, and the class and race I used has also been nerfed. It was an Orc Thief with the Dragonshield, conversion chain between Mystera/Glowing Guardian/Dracul.

As an elf, refreshment isn't really necessary. You want to convert glyphs early to leverage that higher mana pool, which limits your ability to utilize refreshment effectively. Mystera does generate less piety when prepped, which isn't that big a deal if you're not getting both Mystic Balance and Refreshment.

mothwentbad: I think I took a pact, but it probably wasn't worth it.
Pacts are generally overpriced against comparable boons. You need a lot of piety to fuel them effectively, meaning Earthmother, Taurog, or non-prepared Mystera are the best combos with the Pactmaker. Consensus, however, is to die for.

There is the Really Big Sword, but hauling it around the entire dungeon run isn't a practical option. Sometimes Binlor's Stone Heart boon is viable (it's been rather niche since its nerf), but it's not in Naga City. The Taurog->GG conversion chain is a godsend for warmongers for this very reason. The fact that GG is assured to appear in the Naga City arena greatly improves Taurog's attractiveness.

Taurog's an inventory hog. Personally I'd have prepped Namtar's Ward (the best prep for Berserkers, IMO) instead of an Alchemist's Scroll, but you might not have that item unlocked yet.

mothwentbad: Bet on boss.
Since you were running Alchemist's Scroll, you could have taken Patches. The little Teddy can be a real pain, but if you're willing to pop a potion every so often to clear away the poison or mana burn he can randomly inflict, his benefits vastly outweigh his penalties.

The only monster class I really don't find attractive is half-dragon. Though half-dragon would probably do ok in Naga City due to the row setup... I've heard Binlor Paladin works for a lot of people too.

I'm glad I'm not crazy. I sort of had thoughts kind of like that, but I still felt like I should have had an extra glyph or two and the boon saved for when I really needed a lot of DPs.

Namtar's Ward might not be that great for chain boss fights. The 24-40 health from Alchemist's Scroll factors in with every level-up, room clear, exploration, and health potion. The ward looks like it would be strong for conventional dungeons with tough monsters all around to leverage level-up heals a lot, but I have doubts about it in NC.

Patches sounds really annoying. Haven't even tried it yet.

It's a great combo, although I wouldn't recommend it for Naga City personally. You can use all your piety before level-up to avoid his tax, and piety gain is really easy. With knockback you're generating 5 piety every time you attack, meaning it's easy to activate his stone skin boon between each hit to get maximum physical resistance... all while building up magic resistance.

The one thing to be mindful of is the number of walls remaining. Once they're gone you can't take more boons, and Paladins cannot convert so you're stuck with him at that point. There was a brief period where stone skin cost 10 piety per pop; the combo was absolutely wicked back then.

Level-up chains aren't too hard to get when fighting wave after wave of level 10 enemies ;-)

But yeah, the Alchemist's Scroll is still a great item and high HP can serve you well too. I just think Namtar's Ward is too good for Berserkers to pass up.

Patches is insidious because his "pranks" are so incredibly infuriating, but his benefits are actually worth putting up with it. If you're uncertain, try him out with the Crusader with Jehora Jeheyu prepared. The Crusader is immune to mana burn and poison, and the WEYTWUT glyph given to you by Jehora allows you to teleport out of trouble if Patches shifts you somewhere you don't want to be.

Halfling Priest with Naga Cauldron seems doable. I'm not sure on the gods thing though. Getting enough damage can be difficult, and I really wanted to get a lucky Trisword (but I found almost no damage items, just a hero helm). I tried Binlor --> Mystera with Bear Mace, but no cigar. 8 out of 9 mini-bosses slain. Probably had an early error with potion use. It was a bit too late before I realized how important it was going to be to be a miser about health potions. Tower of Goo ate all available mana potions and a Schadenfreude before going down, but that did it. It would be best to not see him until level 10.

I definitely could have used better damage gear. I could try Taurog --> Mystera or something. I really need fireballs on boss floor, since Glowing Guardian is not an option. I probably couldn't get Death Protection because you can't have Burndayraz, four Taurog items, small items, and a keg or Yendor at the same time; the Helm is probably not needed. I might consider spawning the last Taurog item or two on the boss floor and leaving them on the floor for later just in case.

Naga City is hard. :(
Finally got my third win, using Halfling Priest with Naga Cauldron. Updating the OP now.

Gorgon is pretty cool. I might have to do a LP video, since there don't seem to be any anywhere for some reason.

By all means, do so :-)

Blackspace management seems to be a really big deal...

I tried a Normal dungeon with Vicious Token. First try was Super Meat Man... really way too hard, had to retire.

Second time was Lord Gob. Not too bad! But I used up all of my black space, and didn't have that many potions left. Pactmaker and Tower Shield for bonus resistances helped me cap out my armor with a single Endiswall cast each time, saving a lot of mana for the final fight. Might procs at level 6 to erode resists helped, but used up a lot of tiles. I get the feeling that I have long way to go to figure this class out. I probably could've used Binlor to lower resists more and saved more black tiles, at the very least. I only had 20% to remove, so Tower of Goo could've been horrible by comparison.

It seems like a lot of different items can lead to a lot of different strategies overall. Struggling through Vicious Token Normal runs doesn't really put me in a place to teach the class to the internet, but if no one else is going to try, then maybe I'll give it a shot...

It always is with poison antics. The Assassin has swift hands shenanigans to fall back on, so he doesn't need poison late-game, but the Gorgon really does rely on it in a way that other classes don't.

Super Meat Man is one of the nastier vicious token bosses. However, he has nothing on Frank. Best balance of HP and damage, plus undead immunities, makes him the overall strongest boss on random rotation.

Don't worry too much about "teaching" the class. Since you need to beat Naga City three times to unlock the Gorgon, anyone who actually has access to it has the same level of experience as you do. Just have fun with it.
About to upload LP. A little over an hour long, ow. I play kind of slow, and for the video I talked about everything I did before I did it. It was either that or spend 30 minutes with some kind of long, silent spots.

I can't get the volume balance to work right to save my life. Blah. It probably gets better after the dungeon starts, because the theme song is a bit louder than the rest of the music IIRC.

This should only take 5 hours or so to process... X-P
