Today we're launching the "Hidden Gem of the Week" where we'll highlight great games you might have missed. Today we're presenting the revolutionary 3D shooter, Descent 1+2.
With GOG.com's fast-growing catalogue of titles, you might miss some games that really deserve some love. In our weekly "Hidden Gem of the Week" feature, we will highlight those great games for you. And if that's not enough, we'll give you <span class="bold">a 10% discount</span> for the whole week, until Sunday at 11:59 p.m. EDT, on the featured game. For a good start, we grabbed GOG editorial contributor David Craddock to [url=http://www.gog.com/en/editorial/hidden_gem_of_the_week_descent_1_2/]take a look at Descent 1+2. If you have any comments or suggestions feel free to share them with us!
I was actually going to post a story very similar to this on the gaming community I work at. (CouchAthletics.com)
It's an article series I started called The Forgotten Gems of Gaming. This Saturday I was going to release my Descent article. I might just have to push it ahead of schedule to link people to get the game at a discount here.
Thank the internet for social networking. I probably wouldn't have spotted this otherwise.
Stay awesome, GoG!
Awesome idea but actual execution feels a bit... rushed. How about making it biweekly, but with more attention to exact article?..

I do kinda agree, and I would suggest one of the GREAT movies you guys do, and maybe even a slightly larger discount? 59 cents off isn't pushing it into the impulse buy category just yet.
Basically, it needs more details to convince people unfamiliar with the game to try it.
The general idea is to just offer a quick look at a good game that people may have overlooked. It takes a lot of resources to get the videos and in-depth articles together, and we couldn't do them on a weekly basis. We'll keep doing those sorts of things in the future, as well.

C'mon, it's $6 we are talking about. Even at the original price it almost feels like a shoplift.
Discount size seems quite right.

Well well...so THIS is what I've heard shades of here and there for years now? See, I never ran across any game in this series back in the day, BUT, what I did run across, was consumed by, and hope to one day arrive on GoG was a game called Radix: Beyond the Void!
Can anybody knowledgable on the whole compare and contrast this Descent pack with that game? Or even a general timeline as to where Radix came into play in this "descent" period?

Oh I know that, and YOU know that... it's clearly a steal - zero arguments here! But for someone who doesn't have any idea if they'll like the game or not... $5.99 and $5.40 are basically the same price. Trim off a tiny bit more to $4.99 and it's an *impulse* buy.

Can't compare but I can do better.
Descent 1 demo: http://www.download.com/Descent-demo/3000-7563_4-10000679.html
Descent 2 demo: http://download.cnet.com/Descent-II-demo/3000-7563_4-10000680.html
Both will probably need dosbox or if you want to mess with a source port http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html for Descent 2 and http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/ for the first.

There's a thread for these. ;)

Where do you think I found the links :P?
What a fantastic idea!
Are there any criteria that a game must have to make the "hidden gem" list?

Low sales? ;)
(They must be awesome, too, of course.)

Hah. Well, I think that there are a lot of games that aren't the "big" ones on the site that might just get missed if you're not familiar with them. Really, how often will a title alone make you want to buy something? So there's no specific metric, but we'll just highlight some games that you can have a lot of fun with but may not have thought about in a while.
The Definitive Edition is not included?
