Am I the only gog.com supporter who is upset with the decision made by Daedalic Entertainment not to release Deponia: The Complete Journey for its GoG.com supporters and customers?

When they did the big release on Steam, they gave a massive discount for everyone who purchased Deponia on Steam, upgrading them to the Complete Journey.

No such consideration was made for GoG.com, and, after talking with Steph (their English rep), discovered that the Complete Journey will NEVER be released on GoG.com

I feel more than a little slighted, since I joined their effort in campaigning for their games on GoG.com while drumming up support.

Am I the only one who is more than a little irritated with Daedalic Entertainment? It feels like they are not only stabbing their GoG.com customers in the back, but that they are also thumbing their nose up at GoG.com itself. It really feels disrespectful on a few levels.

Are you sure about that? Because originally Deponia the Complete Journey included some special ending that explained what happened.

I think the patches bring the game up to date in regard to bug fixing and the game engine, I don't know about any change to the actual plot.

i just check the steam page, there's no mention of different ending on deponia complete journey

what im more interested in is getting goodbye deponia premium edition, the one that includes sountrack.

will it be released on GOG? can somebody from GOG respond to this...?

getting the soundtrack would be pretty neat...

It was part of the release info by Daedalic Games on their facebook site. They discussed storyline extras. But, if that's no longer a thing, then maybe they did indeed update all of the games.

The New Content which is part of the Complete Journey that is available from steam is not available from GoG.com

This is confirmed.

All that happened was that they updated the engine and some of the soundtrack offerings.

The actual storyline content is not present.

This is upsetting.

Steam version is equal to our updated games. There is no new ending. I do not understand your rumbling.

Daedalic Entertainment responded to me in email stating that I was correct and the new content is only available via Deponia complete and it is not available in 3.2 on gog.com


edit: on their official site, they said that the story was ambiguous in some areas and so they fixed it in complete. The support people confirmed that for me in email.

If this is not true then I'd like to know why Daedalic is saying it is.

After informing myself and skipping through a complete Let's Play video I can confirm that the only difference between the single games (patched to newest version) and "The complete journey" are:

Developer commentarys (including new Poki songs).
Questlog (sometimes funny but I did not need it in the old game so why now?).
Map for directly accessing specific game parts (I have savegames for that).
Bonus Videos (You can watch them on youtube).
Soundtrack only for "Goodbye Deponia" included.

So it is not true that you will get less game or story if you buy the single games on GOG.com.

The reason why Daedalic would say such thing is simply because they want to sell their game again. You can watch a Let's play video for yourself to make sure the story is exactly the same (after the ending of one part the game automatically enters the tutorial of the next part - just like in the seperate games).

Why should they say that? Daedalic wins more buyers the reviewer wins nothing by saying this.

ok, ty for clearing some of this up. Do any of the videos "answer what happened" at the end of Deponia? Could that be it? a developer commentary explaining the ending?

As I said I only skipped through the 100+ videos. But Poki explained in several intervews that the end is the end he wanted and I don't see where there is much expaining needed.

The game is about the character Rufus and his inability to be selfless. In the end he brings the ultimate sacrifice to help all the others. It is the only thing he ONLY does for others and not for him. The games have ofte be critiziced for having such an unlikeable protagonist but that was always the way it should be. The games always were about Rufus and his way to be more likeable. It never was about a happy ending at all. You can however clearly see in the last video that Goal KNOWS that the "real" rufus has sacrificed himself and that the one saved is not the real one.

Maybe if I find the time I will watch all those videos (the Let's player listens to ALL the commentarys) and if there is anything contained that would give more insight then I will post it here.

I wonder if it was a translation issue between German and English, then -in regards to marketing.

Hello! Long time Gog-er first time poster.

Im a little late to the party, but i have a simpler anwser.

Daedalic simply does not trust gog.com (i.e. its users). All games are DRM free. Somebody buys the game, uploads it to a tracker, and BOOM, 5000-10000 people get the torrent and wont buy the game. Steam on the otherhand has DRM. One could not just simply upload one of the steam games to a tracker.
Looking at the most popular torrent trackers (rarbg, piratebay ect.), you'll see that the newest releases are uploaded as soon as 2-3 hours after their release. And people seem to trust gog uploads for some odd reason. (You see steam torrents are a bit more shady, 90% off the time containing viruses. Gog upload usually are clean.)
If i go to, lets say, the-pirate-bay right now, and search for gog games, im 100% confident, that i will find 95% of the gog.com library there. Now if i would try this with steam releases, the result would be 8-10% because of the DRM.

Daedalic is a small company, and cannot afford to lose revenue, therfore they choose the safest way. And that was steam.

Anyway, i think this was the reason why Complete Jorney wasnt released on gog.

Anyway they released Deponia here only a month after the release date on Steam; and Chaos on Deponia was even released here as a preorder. If they are so afraid of DRM-free version's piracy, they wouldn't have done so, wouldn't they?
