I don't know if the game is DRM-free on other marketplaces. If it is important to you that you can play your games after the end of civilization (or the end of Steam) you should take DRM into consideration.
Now to your questions:
- I would say
Motion Twin (the devs) have literally abandoned us, but they
were never here to begin with! If you go and dig a little through this subforum, you will find lots of feedback (like it is requested in the
in development FAQ) but not a single reply by the devs. As far as we know, they do not care about us.
- The Updates on Steam happen very frequent but have some unpleasant bugs (or so I have heard). The Updates on GOG have happened about every 2 weeks on average but had stopped between the update on January 10 and the one today (
link to the full update history). On the flip side I do not remember ever running into a game breaking bug.
- As far as I can tell we get the same version numbers (and content), but you will only get what
Motion Twin consider stable releases on GOG. If you want nightly builds Steam would be the place to go.
- I cannot comment on the quality of
Dead Cell's
"support", as I never had to write a ticket for this game specifically, but GOG's support as a whole is alright. However, if you will ever have to write a ticket, you will probably only ever talk to someone from GOG's support team - not with employees of
Motion Twin directly.
I hope this helps you to decide which version you want but from your initial questions it sounds like you'll want the Steam version.
Alternatively, you can wait for the full release version, which will not be missing any kind of content. ;)
Oh, and before I forget: Maybe wait for some more replies to your post before you make your purchasing decision and also ask the Steam community as well to get the full picture.
Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy
Dead Cells, because all my complaints aside it is still a good game. ;)
P.S.: I just noticed your forum title
"Stop resetting my location!" If you want that fixed you'll have to write a ticket to GOG's support about it. The web development team knows what causes the bug but won't fix it because there aren't enough users complaining about it. I'm not exaggerating.
