It's not. SFX has been changed, as has the version of maniac mansion.
I'd also like to see the original DOTT available, even if I have to pay separately.
Just because a game has been remastered doesn't mean the original should be thrown away. Same with Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2 & Loom. All of them have changes in the version presented on GOG from the originals. And that's fine, but if you're going to do that let us buy the originals for posterity's sake if nothing else.

I honesty don't understand your logic. The remastered has the same playability as the original, except everything is improved. In fact they cared enough to keep the original graphical interface for nostalgia fans/purists (Like you) and even managed to secure rights for the obligatory Max cameo (Which has been cut from previous Lucasarts remasterings) I'd also like to see the original DOTT available, even if I have to pay separately.

Keep in mind, I LOVED the original version when I was a kid, and still do. But seeing as I now have both versions in one, I see no reason to move backwards to only the original.

ZarkonDrule: The original audio track and a version of maniac mansion that I can save in. I'm fairly happy with the remaster. It's not perfect, but it's decent, unlike the MI ones.
But since it does not contain 100% of the original experience, I still want to be able to buy the original game. I'm not asking for it to be a freebie.

Some LucasArts games, like "X-Wing", "TIE Fighter" and "Zak McKracken" come in several versions here on GOG as well.

So the original game is contained in the tenta.cle file.
bgbennyboy is working on updating Double Fine Explorer to properly support extracting from it, but until then: https://quickandeasysoftware.net/software/monkey-island-explorer
The Monkey Island Explorer actually works well enough to extract the original game files. Select Monkey Island 1 mode, show "all files" and open tenta.cle. Filter by .000, .001 and .sou files, extract those by clicking "save files" and load them in ScummVM as normal.
Maniac Mansion is included there as well - those are all the *.lfl files in the maniac/ folder but having fun extracting those since you can only do it one file at a time. If you try to "Save all files" it'll crash on the first texture it tries to extract.
Doublefine Explorer will hopefully get updated within the next day or two. I also do not know if the original game data files are modified in any way - I do not have the original game to compare them to.
Have fun.
Edit: ScummVM did not warn me about modified files on launch, so I'm gonna guess they're the original files.

Looks like DOTT works fine, with original SFX. :)
Maniac Mansion crashes, so I'm guessing it will take some work. I'll request it at SCUMMVM once bgbennyboy has updated the extractor so they don't have to manually extract 54 files. :D

Judging by the the timing of your post and this tweet, it updated just as you asked for it. Maniac Mansion crashes, so I'm guessing it will take some work. I'll request it at SCUMMVM once bgbennyboy has updated the extractor so they don't have to manually extract 54 files. :D
I *think* Maniac Mansion wasn't extracting properly with MIE. I got a different checksum each time I did it. Dumping Maniac Mansion now, will report back...
E: Yep. It works if you dump it from Double Fine Explorer.

Do you get the old monster.sou? I would assume that the new voice data is stored somewhere else…
