This is a great idea. GOG now has Galaxy and achievements should be quite easy to implement in the game. They are already in the Steam version, why not offer the same features for GOG users?

Double Fine used to offer Game Center achievements for Mac App Store users as well. So it should be on their radar to treat Steam, PlayStation and GOG customers equally.

Online achievement systems are a misguided approach to video games. Video games are supposed to be fun.

Over the years, I've observed forum dwellers rally together & chide others in other video game discussion about their record in online achievements similar to what you'd see in a school playground, oftentimes, where the discussions have absolutely nothing to do with the game. Online achievement systems are also a form of profiling individuals invading their privacy, creating a microcosm that makes new visitors feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, which is the complete opposite of having fun.

Why on Earth would I care about someone else's statistics or a record of how many times they accomplished XYZ in a video game when I came to get information or want to to express my experience and/or appreciation for the game title I played?

Online achievement systems are a dumb idea I don't care to be a part of. The whole idea reeks of something you'd find at battle dot net.

How about my view on the matter:
Having online achievements is not a matter of choice in many ("recent") games - so I'm against forced achievements.

Agreed.
I would much prefer the freeform exchange of gaming ideas, strategies and concerns this site currently enjoys than the virtual 'lord of the flies' seen inside other online bulletin board services.

With me, I don't seek out achievements, I merely play the game regularly and if I do something that happens to warrant an achievement it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. It's the game rewarding me, not me looking for bragging rights, I mean if I told someone "Oh, I got this achievement in X" seriously no-one would care.

I do like achievements and honestly i would appreciate if they were avaiable for DOTT & all other games. Do i enjoy games much more with achievement "support" ? of course...NOT.

I do not understand the rude tone in this discussion: if you use galaxy you could already notice that achievements (in the future) will be optional. So you do not like them? turn it off!

In addition you are not forced to use the client. So if you do not like the client, just do not use it.

set your gog profile as private as you like, so nobody can spy on your activities...or: achievements/progress in a game.

Regarding achievments it´s a decision that already have been done by gog. But in a smart way.

I would not have characterized my reply in this discussion the way you did, however, I maintain the opinion that online achievement systems are a wretched trend in gaming.

The Steam Version has achievements whether you "want them or not", so the Gog version can too, except with the gog version, you have the option of not running the game with galaxy and getting achievements, so it's a WIN/WIN for everybody.
