I'm in the lands of Omar now, and it's very, very dark (not only outside, for obvious reasons, but even the dungeons seem to be darker). If a room isn't lit with torches, I have to run around it in concentric circles to check if there's something to pick up/break in the room.
Thus, I'd like to upgrade my Light spell, but I've only got a single copy of the spell from a bookstand, and now bookstands only drop high-level spells (specifically, Wall of Flames). Master Elmeric (?) also only has high-level spells for sale.
Is there any way for me to upgrade the Light spell? Or some other way to increase the overall brightness (without increasing that of my screen)? I've not seen an option to do so in the game.

IIRC, try visiting some of the Ardyl dungeons again because they reset after a time. Plus you do know that you can start a new game with the same character, right? You don't have to up the difficulty either.

Yes, it gets very dark after clearing Marghor, so Ormar is always dark and dangerous.

Thanks for your reply.
I did know that I can restart the game with the "Restart in town" option, but I didn't really feel inclined to do so after getting four crystals and aging quite a number of years (I didn't have youth elixirs back then).
I didn't know older dungeons reset after a time, though.
Anyway, I ended up pumping up the contrast and resolution of my screen to almost the maximal value while playing Darkstone.
But your suggestions will come handy when playing the game on a higher difficulty level (or a new character).
Ah... don't ever use "Restart in Town". It doesn't restart the game, it just warps you to Town minus everything you were carrying! Not a good idea. 8)

Thanks for the heads-up, I thought it was a quicker way than starting a new game on the same difficulty, but to the same effect.
