On a 64-bit Windows 7 machine, I'm getting a lot of audio skipping with the game's music. Every 30 seconds or so (it happens randomly) the music will skip forward about 5 seconds - and it's a little difficult to ignore.

I tried running in compatibility mode, but the game asks for a disk when I launch it. I also tried going into the task manager and forcing the game to run on one core, and that did nothing.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I've got this on too!

I noticed that not only the music skips at times, but some dialogues too - when the NPC nears the end of his text, he may skip a sentence (or go very quickly through it).

Other people have issues with looping sounds, this may be related in some way.
At least I'm not the only one with this issue. Other than some very minor graphical glitches, the game still works perfectly fine for me.

I tried google for solutions and found none - but I did discover that the game's speech and music files are in MP2 format. Perhaps that specific audio format and the way it's compressed is the source of the problem.
I've recently buy this game and also experience this issue. Does GoG team patch that kind of games ?
Just bought and installed, and found I have this issue aswell (Win 7, 64bit).

Hoping for a fix. Music plays a huge part in my game nostalgia.

I'd give support a try. It's worth a shot at least. Be sure to include the non-optional optional DxDiag report.

Thanks, I could try that - I just usually find what I need eventually on these forums (since people tend to have the same problems).
Has anyone found or heard of a fix for this yet? I'm having the same problem and it is incredibly annoying. I do not want to play with the music turned off either.

Windows 7 64-bit SP1
core i7 3770K @3.5 GHz
GTX 680 (344.11)
Realtek onboard audio ALC898 (6.0.1.6657)
Same problem here, sounds stop or jump during dialogues or when Audren sing.

I'm running into this issue as well; it's certainly not game-breaking but it is a bit jarring when you're talking to an NPC and trying to listen to the voiced lines and it skips ahead on you.
i have the same issue :-(
a real shame because the music is so damn good in this game!
Hi every one! :) ( sorry for poor english :( )

I found an solution to my sound issue then talking to people for example.
add -noasync to darkstone shortcut, and your problems probably are history :)

This is my setting's:
Darkstone.exe -32bit -nointro -primary -ignoreagp -zbufferinfinite -sortbyz -noasync
Music, action sounds and NPC vocals all cutting in and out making the game most annoying to play. Support not a lot of help on this issue for my Win 10 PC...:(

It happens for me too, after Nvidia Driver update.
-noasync does not help
I think I found a fix! You know how some old games used direct sound and have audio issues on newer hardware? I figured that might be the case here so I used this fix on the game. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/23078 Played for a few minutes and I havn't heard any dialog or music glitches.

Just played for a little more then a half hour going around town talking to people and doing the training area a few times. No audio glitches at all as far as I can tell. Can finally play this game with out audio issues!

Just removed the nexus mod and tried using indirectsound instead and the dialog skipped constently. Removed indirect sound and went back to using the mod and dialog is working fine again. Just letting you guys know in case you have the same idea of using indirect sound to fix the issue instead.
