Assuming you're entering the correct IP address etc....first try pinging the other computer to make sure the local network is actually working reliably between the two computers.

In Windows, use Dos prompt and type "ping (ip#)"

Try a lan program like tunngle as the game was designed for lan play and as such unless youve opened ports on your router for it its not gonna work well.

It has TCP/IP so it'll work for LAN and internet just fine...at least the non-GoG version did...but yes, router and network settings could be an issue.

Just curious, has anyone tried a prog such as Xfire for connecting to other players? Or what is that other prog people used; Hamachi? There was a website long ago someone had made that was dedicated for allowing people to host and join games with other players. But I cannot remember the name of the site, and I doubt it still exists anyway. But if either of the two other ideas work feel free to let everyone know, if nothing else, I'll try to connect my systems sometime when I'm in the mood for multiplayer and let everyone know if I can come up with something if nobody has a solution yet.

HI had the same problem yesterday trying to play with a friend. we both have windows7 32bit os. with windows firewall and comodo firewall. I disabled both firewalls, as well as running the game as administrator.

I could also ping his machine and he could ping mine. we are in a local lan, i was using wireless he had a lan cable so there are a few variables there.

when he hosts a game, he goes into -
> new game -> multiplayer -> host -> chooses his char and loads the map

when i go to join him i type in his ip and it connects but shows no sessions.

i tried the 00:192.186.x.x address as well as the normal 192.168.x.x address and i also tried to use the external IP but these all just connected me and showed no sessions.

Is there a way to play online coop game then? Via Hamachi, gameranger, tunngle or whatever?

Add me to the list. It seems like there's something very wrong with the multiplayer on the GOG version. I was "upgrading" from the disc based version, but that one at least works when you try to play TCP over LAN. The GOG version acts like it connects, but never shows a game on the list to join.

This is kind of a bummer because the reason I bought this was to play co-op. The game is listed as having the multiplayer functionality intact, so I didn't expect there to be a problem with it.

I had the same problem with multiplayer as well. No games listed between my two computers (both laptops, one on wireless).
First it was my windows firewall that prevented connections. I had to make an exception for darkstone.exe and DirectPlay (can't remember the full name). Usually a window will pop up with this question after your first try.
Then I tried again and it took a looong time before the client connected to the server (1-2 minutes at least), so it may be that you just haven't waited long enough? I know I cancelled the connection too soon so maybe others have too?

We got it working as far as recognizing a game by disabling Windows Firewall, but now upon connection it says "Error! Unknown Quests Module:"

No module is listed.

Any thoughts?

Played around with it for a while over the weekend and haven't had any luck on Windows 7 64-bit on a wired LAN. The only way I was finally able to get it to even see a game was to connect to a host PC running Windows XP, but that resulted in the "Error! Unknown Quest Module" message every time I tried to join. GOG might have broken something when they put this one together.

By the way, we were connected via TeamViewer 7's VPN (the best IMO -- works when Hamachi doesn't).

Also tried GameRanger which was useless.

Also tried 98/Me and 95 compatibility, which yields a DRM problem -- it asks for the disc.

Win NT asks for Direct X.

In case anyone else is having trouble- I got GameRanger working with a friend on the first try.
Just download and install GameRanger and create an account. Then create a room for DarkStone (compatible games should appear on the list-pretty surprised DarkStone showed up).

Once all players are in just hit start game! I want to say it even booted up the game for me and got me to the character select screen, but I could be exaggeration that a bit. Still though, worked like a charm!

I got this working with both Hamachi and Tunngle.
I would say for best results try Tunngle , it has special channels for each individual game , Darkstone included.
