Darksiders Genesis is a prequel and kind of a spinoff; think of it as the two isometric Tomb Raider games.

Personally, I'm not affected by the isometric camera, I'm actually relieved that Joe Mad, the original creator and art designer of Darksiders and Darksiders II is working on the franchise he helped create again, and, more importantly, this FEELS like a Darksiders game again, despite the camera perspective, unlike Darksiders III, which is just a poor Soulslike ripoff, even if it has the "vastly more personal" free TPP camera (a camera, by the way, which is one of its biggest flaws, as it doesn't work all that well with the Soulslike formula Gunfire Games emulated so poorly).

I'd rather have an isometric Darksiders that feels like Darksiders than a freaking Soulslike copy/paste with the Darksiders brand attached to it.

i totally agree on the topdown camera perspective and its overall better for darksiders. the camera often felt clunky for the style of combat. there is a beautiful sense of severity of impact due to the animations that the camera movement made clunky to me in the previous games. top down hands down the way to go forward for darksiders - also does fury become less hollow and less unlikable later i must admit i go through darksiders 3 very sluggishly ...

i'd imagine as a personification of anger, furys temper would be fuelled by her emotions but she doesnt seem to have many to me...

I totally Agree we need a free camera controls. It would make the game so much better. I like the game but the camera needs some work!

I honestly don't understand why people are so upset about the isometric camera... sure, OTS freeflow camera was nice, I agree, but considering THQ Nordic provided Airship Syndicate with an even smaller budget than what Gunfire Games had to work on Darksiders III, I'm extremely pleased with the end result. Eight hours in and I can safely say this is Darksiders through and through, it's definitely better than Darksiders III.

In all honesty, I do feel Darksiders games are more than just camera perspective. As long as they don't turn them into turn-based strategy or walking sims, they can use whatever camera perspective they want. All I can say is that, if you're a Darksiders fan, if you were somehow let down by the third installment, give Genesis a chance. This IS a proper Darksiders game, it just uses a fixed isometric perspective.

It gets a lot better after the fight with Lust.
