GOG has shown a willingness to corrects stuff like this, so hopefully we will get a proper fix eventually. Since they do not have the source code (I assume), it is uncertain if a fix will ever be found.

One way I've seen this sort of thing handled is to simply make any answer considered 'correct' by the game. Not as professional looking, but very effective and potentially a lot easier.

Inny: Well... isn't GoG supposed to remove copy protection on his games ?

DaveMongoose: It will be interesting to see how GoG deals with a 'code wheel' protection system when they get a game that uses one - some of those can have hundreds of combinations so you can't just look them up in a list, although I have seen them done with Java or Flash.
They already have. with Starflight.
Had the game when it first came out and don't remember it trigerring the copy protection so much. I get it leaving a town & after every battle.
I completed the game a few weeks ago, and only encountered the copy protection a couple of times.

Greybriar: Here are the symbols used for the Darklands Copy Protection. Using it is much more convenient than looking them up in the .pdf manual.
Thanks, It's amazing how much this looks like a crumped up piece of paper I traced by hand back in my Apple IIe / PC days to deal with this irritating form of copy protection.

Kudios for thinking of scanning yours to help others.
You're welcome, gahufford.

I always try to help my fellow gamers out.
I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but... I just wanted to point out that I get the copy protection every time I enter a town, and that alt+tab sometimes gets recognized somehow by the game as answering the copy protection question incorrectly. It is pretty bad. They should really look into this.

Edit: Actually, the copy protection pops up after any world map event. My Darklands copy is paranoid.

Please write to Support about this issue and we'll do our best to see that it gets resolved positively. Thanks :D
Interesting problem. It must have something to do with external factors, since I have put about a dozen hours into the game recently and was asked a copy protection question exactly once. I seem to recall getting it a bit more frequently than that when I first started playing in '92. My first, uninformed guess is to wonder if it has something to do with virus checking.

Yes, this can sometimes be very annoying, and it seems the more you play, the most it asks you for questions - and, as someone else mentioned earlier, if you Alt+Tab to read your copy of the symbols guide, the game autoquits!

P.
This has happened to me twice today and ruined progress in my game both times because the game quits when I alt-tab to look at the symbol sheet. :(

I'm having a support issue submitting this to support, after I submit that it's a technical issue it sends me back to the support games list. Has anyone received a response? I've lost many hours due to alt+tab or alt+enter to look up codes.

This link should take care of everything: http://www.gog.com/support/contact/technical_issues_with_games/darklands

Please let me know if that helps :)

Thankfully GOG, no not you, hasn't done anything about this yet.
