The saved games appear to be in totally random order in the load menu. It's hard for me to find the correct one. After what are they sorted?

They do seem to be in random order, but each one has the in-game date displayed for each save game.

I just scroll through the list and find the latest in-game date and load that one.

Also, every time I load a game I delete all of the older saves I don't need any more.

It would be really nice if we had the ability to overwrite previous save games when saving... but I don't really see that happening 30 years after release unfortunately.

They're not exactly in a random order. Saves games are named DKSAVE??.???
but because they din't think to use leading zeroes on their numbers DKSAVE10 is listed before DKSAVE8 (because 1 comes before 8)

Deleting DKSAVE0 files deletes the default party. Thus you can create new characters but there is no way to add them to the party, thus you cannot start a campaign. So, yes, you can delete saves, but you should never delete DKSAVE0.
