This gentleman over on the Steam Forums was able to reverse engineer the fonts and image data, and has made a couple mods that make the game much more readable. (Which is, to me, my biggest gripe about it.)

Check them out and see if they help!

The Stats screens are darker and have better contrast with the text:

Thanks for reposting these, drake.raider! Wendigo has also just recently created an alchemy tile set to bypass the copy-protection challenge that's an improvement to what Quadko did back in the early 2000's. https://groups.io/g/darklands/message/9823

I've been also thinking for quite a long time that, with using tools like Quadko's PicConverter, some of the background panel art could be improved as well. Most of it is outstanding. But there are some that seem to have been rushed and/or unfinished. Likely they ran out of time and just had to ship it as-is. It's not always easy to find time to devote to such a large project individually, however. Especially when a person such as myself has no art skills! <;b But, perhaps something could be accomplished as a community effort. ???

I encourage folks to join us on the Darklands group on Groups.IO; it's the same group that was on Yahoo! Groups for almost 20 years... https://groups.io/g/darklands >>> founded on ONEList 1998; acquired by eGroups 2000, then Yahoo! Groups 2000, and moved to Groups.IO 2019. We have all 23 years of community content preserved there. And it's free! :)
