Video driver is updated, machine rebooted, latest patch of the game... and yet, when I hover on any trinkets, be they in the Hamlet or the Dungeon, my game crashes (generic app crash of Darkest.exe). Does anyone know why this is happening, and especially how I can fix it? I've seen other reports of this happening on Win7 and Win10, but haven't seen anyone provide a solution beyond the usual guidance. Avoiding trinkets is possible for a while, but eventually it happens accidentally. Very frustrating.

Help welcome,
Steve

I really don't know about this problem, but did you try to reinstall the game or check its integrity through the GOG galaxy? Its is common that games crashes when trying to exhibit certain things because the related archive of the game is corrupted or missing, but I can't guess if it is a problem with the Windows 8.

Thanks. Yes, checked the integrity via GoG Galaxy client, and then uninstalled/reinstalled. Same behavior. Note that this crash is happening not five weeks into the game: I haven't been building a big, complicated save file here.

Any other insights?

Try this solution: http://steamcommunity.com/app/262060/discussions/3/1369506834141286407/ . Seems that if worked for other persons on reddit.

Sadly, this does not work for me because I do not have V-Sync on my monitor: it uses G-Sync, which has been enabled from the start of this crashing saga.

I was hopeful that the new patches had quietly addressed this issue, but it seems that they did not.

Same problem here and it seems like it's quite an old bug that Red Hook has no intention of fixing anyhow. It appears first with crimson court DLC or soon before it (first reports are from june). Sadly, it got no acknowledgement from RH so you'll probably have to live with "memorize every trinket in game and try to equip them quick enough" or contact GoG support; after troubleshooting they should refund your money if they won't be able to resolve this (and they won't since it's bug that RH ignores).
