How do you turn the subtitles back on?

When I first played it I definitely had subtitles accompanying the game's speech sequences, but after restarting a new game going, they've gone! I'm a terrible listener so I need these subs or my ears will miss something!!!!! :)
I even tried reinstalling it but still no subtitles back on.

I know it sounds like a minor little quibble - but it's just that I prefer them to be on!

You can enable subtitles wih the F1 button. (I have no idea why it isn't mentioned in the manual...) If I remember correctly, some parts - f.e. the intro movie - still won't be subtitled.
