Hey, I haven't bought this game on GOG yet but I'm
TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK
playing through it on my machine from the copy I bought in 2000 when it was released (plus a hack for widescreen). But
TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK
the only thing that's really driving me crazy about the game is that the loading screens are annoying as crap and take forever, even
TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK
on a modern quad-core processor. I'm not a game developer but I think the issue is that Ion Storm for whatever reason thought it would
TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK
be neat to have the progress bar make a "tick" sound every time one of the little units shows up, and since this sound effect takes a
TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK
certain amount of time to play, the game is probably loaded already but you're still going to have to listen to that TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK-TICK
Really the fact that the game is so hard is not that bad, it's knowing that it will take longer to get through the loading screen than it will to get to the enemies and get killed is the daunting part. And this is the Quake 2 engine so it's not like this should take a long time.
Does the GOG version have the same issue? I know Daikatana never released mod tools but is there any way to remove this and make the load times not asinine?
