MysterD: Wow, if TW2 was your biggest disappointment of all time....that's still a great game, IMHO.
.
If a person holds The Witcher: Enhanced Edition to be a masterpiece or near-masterpiece, I don't see how The Witcher 2 could be anything but a disappointment, as it has--and I say this without exaggeration--almost nothing in common with TW:EE.

But even taking TW2 on its own merits, a game with combat that farcicly bad can't be a great game. And there are many other exceedingly poor design problems in areas from gameplay to controls to UI. TW:EE has a few odd quirks and minor bugs, but it has no such design flaws.

I never said that TW2 is a bad game--even though it did take me four tries over four years to finally get more than a couple hours in without quitting--but in order to appreciate the good, one has to put up with a good deal of bad.

I also don't think TW1 and TW2 are masterpieces either. I played the before EE also, BTW. They are both very different games - i.e. TW1 is more KB/mouse friendly; while TW2 is more controller-friendly for its combat.

I think TW1 was more of a storytelling masterpiece, while TW2 was more of a combat masterpiece. TW1's combat was fine and different - but nothing special. It was definitely unique - but it didn't feel as deep as over games with click-and-point mechanics like that. Meanwhile, TW2's combat felt great (for its time) and more visceral - similar to a Souls game.

Though, I much prefer the combat in From Software's Souls-games over TW1+2+3, as I think it feels much more precise.
