Title.

Certain "scope" mods reduce "ADS time", but there's zero explanation in the game as to WTF it even is. I'm gathering that less of it is a good thing?

There are a LOT of concepts that aren't explained in the tutorial or in-game at all. Great game overall so far, though.

Aim Down Sights. It's well known in the first person shooter community.
Silly GOG, I've been around here for years and it calls me a new user probably because I don't post.

Huh, never heard it referred to like that before, thanks! Most games just say things like "heavier weapons take longer to zoom." To verify, that's the delay between when we hit the zoom/scope button and we're focused enough to shoot, right?
yep, it's exactly that, because you cannot shoot during the animation of "aiming down sight"
it can come in handy with few guns like "charge-tech" snipers
ADS is a common term among shooter fans, but it's not something you see mentioned within games themselves, because most games don't use it a mechanic or stat that can be modified on, so the term is usually scarcely mentioned in games. A more common term used in games is reload time, because that is usually something you can improve in a game.

CP2077 seems to have deeper mechanics in everything compared to other games of this kind. This ADS thing is an indication of that. It has deep augmentation mechanics like Deus Ex, deep melee mechanics like Elder Scrolls, deep gun mechanics like Fallout, deep stealth mechanics, deep hacking mechanics, etc. You rarely see all these in one single game.

In a tiny community no one knows about, yes... but the rest of us just call it aiming or aim mode.

That's just default forum flavor text. You can modify it in your account settings.

LOL! are you kidding me. The first person shooter community is the biggest community in gaming circles. The term ADS has been around since the original Call of Duty and Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis days. You must be new.
Follow up question, more in regards to the display of ADS time stats.

So intuitively, if you add a large scope to a gun, it would make sense that it adds more weight, and thus takes longer to aim. This is what I currently presume the mechanics are for larger long range scopes. However, In terms of displaying the numbers, they display it as "-.x% ADS Time". This translates to "it takes X less time to aim down your sight", implying that adding some scopes would actually reduce ADS time.

To prove this, if it takes 1 second to Aim Down Sight by default, and my scope has -.08% ADS Time, mathematically that would be .92 seconds instead of 1 second to aim. It seems counter-intuitive both logistically and statistically. One would think that there should be a caveat to using a larger scope on the weapon that significantly adds range.

Thoughts?

What ego man, the FPS community is big but you are not the FPS community. I get you're new to FPSs and think you're king of them all but in reality, pretty much no one uses lingo like ADS except a bunch of wannabees.

Except majority of FPS fans never played any COD. It's not really that popular.

LOL! I'm an OG FPS player. I've been around since Wolfenstein 3D days. ADS is widely known among FPS players. You and OP must be new.
And even if you don't know a quick google would have told you. I swear people ask the dumbest shit on forums that can be solved in two seconds lol.

30 years in FPS for me. Guess you started late. Have you played online FPS? Because if you only played SP then you wouldn't have heard it.

Yep you're new.

CoD 1 was good. Maybe 2. After that it became trash. CoD not popular lol? Are you serious? Every year there is a new piece of CoD trash. It's right up there with Fortshit and OverIt (Overwatch). Blizzard copying what was already done in 1996. Just changed it to cartoony crap.
