ast486: I had no idea what it was and just didn't care.

I mean the same mods give you range and a scope or virtual targetting thing..... the latter is what I actually want.

IAmBored2: in game, it really should be called aim speed.... because -0.25 ADS makes absolutely no sense no matter what you think
It would be easier to understand.

Then you get the issue of whether it affects firing from the hip :P

Actually, since the game literally tells you that you can aim the weapon by pressing right mouse button... no. In fact all over the game "ADS" is actually referred to as "aiming". As I said, no one actually calls it ADS, they call it aiming.

Who says "Ready.... AIM DOWN SIGHTS.... Fire"

IAmBored2: What ego man, the FPS community is big but you are not the FPS community. I get you're new to FPSs and think you're king of them all but in reality, pretty much no one uses lingo like ADS except a bunch of wannabees.
avatar
REG2012: LOL! I'm an OG FPS player. I've been around since Wolfenstein 3D days. ADS is widely known among FPS players. You and OP must be new.
And even if you don't know a quick google would have told you. I swear people ask the dumbest shit on forums that can be solved in two seconds lol.

coth_rus: 25 years in shooters, first time hear about the term

Except majority of FPS fans never played any COD. It's not really that popular.
avatar
REG2012: 30 years in FPS for me. Guess you started late. Have you played online FPS? Because if you only played SP then you wouldn't have heard it.

Yep you're new.

CoD 1 was good. Maybe 2. After that it became trash. CoD not popular lol? Are you serious? Every year there is a new piece of CoD trash. It's right up there with Fortshit and OverIt (Overwatch). Blizzard copying what was already done in 1996. Just changed it to cartoony crap.
27 to be precise. 25 years is since i got my first PC.

You just answered yourself - "piece of COD trash". That's why it's not popular. And most of that pieces were loosing to respective Battlefield contenders of the year. I don't mean noone playing it, like Halo franchise, which was totally unknown worldwide until hitting Steam last year. But majority of FPS fans never played it or played only some of those pieces. Hence why absolute majority of games are unaware of COD terminology - ADS, F etc. Absolute majority may be heard of it, but they don't know what that all mean.

Overwatch goes more like after TF2.

IAmBored2: Yeah, you're a total n00b loser who probably got his ass kicked online and has no skillz what so ever, Get lost.
Aww did I make the little one all mad? ahahaha!

Also I can't. I have a compass.

Halo wasn't unknown lol. Every FPS gamer has heard of it. It's been available on PC for years. It coming to Steam just made it more well known.
Also PCMR ignored it because it was bland and generic. I remember playing maybe half an hour of Halo 1. And I laughed at how simplistic it was. Uninstalled and never bothered with it again.

Team Fortress was originally a Quake 1 mod. TF2 came after. Then some years later Valve made a more modern version of it. Then a more modern version of TF2.
Then came Overwatch. As is typical Blizzard just copies popular franchises and changes them just enough to avoid getting sued.

Sorry to disappoint you, but Halo series is barely known worldwide. It wasn't available worldwide. Mostly sold in NA and few more countries. It's only went worldwide last year on Steam, but sales aren't high, as for most gamers this series have no history.

Worldwide popularity of Halo series could raise in future with new installments, if they maintain Steam and regional pricing policy.

to continue derailing this thread...
Halo: Combat Evolved was a huge game back in 2001. it was the original MS launch title for the original XBOX and besides the millions that played the single player campaign the online servers were full for a decade or so after. maybe you guys just were not born yet or too young to have a clue.

and back on topic:
ADS has been a relatively well known abbreviation for online and SP for as long as I can remember in shooter games and/or their communities and i've been playing them for 20+ years. if some didn't notice or didn't understand what it meant all this time doesn't change that fact.
it is not meant as a term to be used as an action(like the idiot posted, "ready aim-down-sites fire"). but as an abbreviated description like it is being used in this game.

in Cyberpunk 2077 the "-0.00 ADS" means it takes that much less time to aim down the sights than it would normally. that is why very high -ADS scopes are always higher ranked colors. makes perfect sense.
i guess they could add a tutorial for weapon\item detail descriptions for those few who can't figure it out and are too lazy to search online.

Reg, you're acting like a pretentious ass. Maybe you should stop and LISTEN instead of acting all high and mighty about this. You know what ADS is, good for you. Get it through your head that not everyone will know or like what you do.

REG2012: "Aim Down Sights. It's well known in the first person shooter community."

If he had some intellegence he would have googled exactly what I wrote to get more indepth information.

Instead of asking a question that can easily be googled which would lead the OP to a forum that is most likely centered around FPS he wastes people's time by asking a question that has been asked thousands of times on many other forums. I think people need basic training on how to use the internet.
Google isn't always helpful. I googled "ADS" and got this. See the enclosed photo.

LOL! That's not how you search.

Type in

What is ADS in first person shooters?

The thing with abbreviations is you have to put more than just three letters. Or you'll get results with every permutation of ADS.

Seriously? I already knew what the result would be, but just for you, I did it anyway. The first result is: "Create a Google AdSense Schedule".

You want to talk about wasting peoples' time? I'll point back to any of your responses that are more than the phrase "Aim down sights time". As has already been said, not everyone's an FPS fan and not to the degree that you are. For arguments' sake, though, even if I was new to gaming etc, so what? The only thing I've learned from this experience is who game journos are talking about when they mention toxic gamers. A week ago I would have argued they don't exist to this degree, but here we are.
