It is more immersive but it makes buying nice clothes pointless. I wanted to dress up and have my character gain street cred like in Saints Row.

The character creation menu even says looks are everything in Night City; dressing up and lookng at the character outside the mirror should be part of that.

You can see your character in third person in the photomode. So the look still makes sense. And you can see it in the inventory. For me even such occasional visual feedback is enough to care about character's look.

Void Eclipse: First person in this game feels mostly fine, surprisingly well. The only thing I don't like is aim down sights - it feels a bit awkward and sluggish, as if weapon had some lag, and this sights drifting doesn't feel pleasant.
I too find this quite annoying for a FPS BUT.. then you find in the perks the passives for aim down sights and it all makes sense..

I thought you can still see your clothes when you look down?

Anyway, I don't think it's pointless. 99% of the time, I'm not staring at myself in a mirror, and I'm also not staring at my car from the outside. I still like to dress well, look nice, and have a nice looking car. Even games like the Need For Speed Underground series where there's quite a bit of focus on the looks of your car, I always drive in "first person" (actually bumper view because there's no cockpit/dashboard view) but it's still nice knowing you got a nice looking car and seeing it when you're in the garage :)

As for my thoughts on FPP.. yes, I love it, and this means CP2077 might be the first CDPR game I will actually buy at some point. Third person is a complete turn off for me. I can sort of tolerate it in a handful games (Max Payne, Life is Strange) but usually I just can't tolerate it. For example, the cover system is Deus Ex: HR is useless to me because I don't want to hide behind a desk IN THIRD PERSON!
Typically, I'm not a fan of First-Person-Perspective in games, as it breaks the immersion for me. In this game, however, the entire world feels so immersive that I rarely run into the same problem. Also, I don't think you could tell this story in 3rd person without it losing a lot of its impact. The intimacy of how they use first-person and the way your perceptions play into the story, it would be hard to capture that in a 3rd person experience.
I always prefer 1st person in games, but the choice is always welcome such as in Bethesda's or Rockstar's games.
I hate games that are FPP-only. I almost didn't buy the game when they announced CP would not have a third person option. It's claustrophobic and unnatural. In real life you can move your head and shoulders around if something is in the way, but in a game you can't, so your field of view is always restricted. Like when you drive the car in FP - if driving was like that in the real world, nobody would do it. Thankfully they allowed you to zoom out to third person while driving.

Also, as others have pointed out, you can't see yourself, which in a game with dress-up options is kind of silly.

For me the best option is what games like Ghost Recon and The Division do - normal movement is in third person, and you shift to first person when you aim down sights.

bobtomas: With the first person:
- the enemy manage to surround you more easy
- in hand-to-hand combat, the enemy has an advantage
- the view of the battlefield is reduced.

With the third person:
- the enemy does not risk to surround you, because you can see who is attacking you from behind
- in hand-to-hand combat you have more vision of the battlefield, you can better dodge enemy attacks
- the view of the battlefield is wider, resulting in enormous advantages in the decision of the combat tactics.

In conclusion. in an RPG game the first person is a gamble.
Well, this "RPG" is also heavily relying on targeting things and using guns and cover, so the FPS perspective makes much more sense.
