Fr0z1nDuDe: But the reality is, friends and family share Netflix accounts.
frogthroat: Family is allowed to share Netflix accounts. Why else would you be able to watch on 4 devices simultaneously? Between friends it is not allowed. What is technically possible is not always what you should be doing.
You can abuse the DRM-free system. Doesn't mean it's right. I much rather encourage people to do the right thing.
I hear you. However, I can confidently say that most companies will not care if 2 dear friends share something. I will also give examples of why friends sharing doesn't hurt a media company.
I bought and played world of warcraft in 2004. My friend laughed at me when I told him it costed $15 a month. He was never going buy it. A couple months later, I had to study for exams. I couldn't play, but I already paid for that month. So I let my friend play on my account for that month. About 2 months later, he purchased the game and subscribed to play for several months, plus 3 expansions. Did my act of sharing with my friend hurt Blizzard? I think not.
My friend also shared something with me, Mass Effect 1. I played and beat his copy of Mass Effect 1. I never purchased it. But I did purchase Mass Effect 2, 3, and Andromeda on release day. Did his act of sharing hurt BioWare? I think not.
Hence friends sharing is not a big deal, and can help companies sell more.
I got to be real honest with you. A company with stringent rules of "friends not allow to share!" is similar to any game company that says "you're not allowed to stream our games on Twitch or Youtube". That kind of attitude does not help sales.
