I have 1.23 installed, offline installer.
I notice the patch from 1.23 to 1.30 is like 40GB or something.

If instead of downloading the patch, I download the full 1.3 version and install over the previous installation, is that ok for the installation or the game won't support it and cause me problems?

My thinking is, if I am going to download 40, might as well download few more to get the whole thing.

Universally it should be fine for any application.
What matters is user generated content, so just in case make the game's saves/config backup and then proceed in any way you want.

Have you tried it?

No.
But (1.23 via patch => 1.3) and (from any state via full installer => 1.3) results should be the same.

"Few more"? The 1.23 to 1.3 patch is 34.1 GB. The full offline 1.3 is 106.2 GB, about 3 times as large as the patch.

That said, it sounds like people have been having issues with the patch's disk space requirements (requiring hundreds of GB additional free space to install the patch), although I'm still downloading the patch and haven't tried this yet.

I am confused. via full uninstaller or did you mean from installer (over the installation).

What's the saying like, in for a pound in for a mile, no, in for a pound in for ever? No, in for a penny, in for a TB! No. Anyway, you get what I am saying.

I have a couple 100 GB free on the C drive where I install the game, I download the setup files on an external drive, so I assume it should be enough.

I just can't make up my mind if I should download everything and install over it, or download the patch.

I meant an installer, just a typo.

In short, full installer replaces everything, while patch applies changes.
The former requires more storage and bandwidth time, the latter - cpu time.
Make the choice depending on which aspect is better for your setup.

What's baffling to me is: my installed 1.23 game folder is taking up 58.8 GB. People are reporting the 1.23 to 1.3 patch requires an excess of 380 GB free space to install. So the main installer is almost twice as large as the installed game, and the patch requires more than ELEVEN times the patch's size to decompress, unpack, merge, whatever, before overwriting the game files (if true). :-/

It could be the case that the full installer has a smaller disk space requirement to install than the patch. 21st century gaming!
Thank you all for your input. I am going to wait a couple of days and then download the full game 1.3 instead of the patch. It sounds like I will need less storage too.

Good strategy. I just tried the patch and got the error that it needs 385,658 MB to install. I only have 256 GB free on a 1TB solid state drive (lots of other games are installed, not expecting to need half the drive vacant just for patches of one game). :-( I have other disks to move files around, maybe I'll uninstall a few games, but what a disk hog.
OK I have an update on this.

I downloaded the full offline installer files on an external drive.

After that and before the installation procedure (not update, but installing the 1.3 over the previous) I had 181GB free on my C drive which is also my game drive. I had 523GB on the external drive I downloaded the game.

During the installation the free capacity on the C drive fluctuated between 164GB and 177GB.
At the end of the installation the free GB on the C drive were 178GB.

So, I did NOT need the 100s of extra space required otherwise to install the patch on its own.

And yes the game runs fine.
