ok, so I have a question, to which I'm getting some contradictory answers over the net

is giving Royce the infected chip the ONLY way to keep Meredith alive?

asking because: I took her chip, didn't clean it (because it's bugged, perhaps, since you don't get the money in it if you clean it before the mission, you only get the eddies if you clean it AFTER calling Dex post-mission)

reading online, I'm under the impression that if you kill Royce during dialogue, Meredith should still be alive, even if you DO NOT use her spiked chip

as as side note, I found the message on a comp that points the mole finger at Anthony Gilchrist but he was the one that greeted me when I came out (once again, Royce killed in dialogue, chip not used)

Freed Brick

Meredith was outside when I came out talked picked all the sarcastic lines and hit on her

later get a call bang and find the giant vibrator upgrade it to legendary status and beat people unconscious with it

Took chip (did not hack it)

Let Jackie-Dum Dum dialog escalate

Killed all Maelstrom, including blowing up Bricks

Met Meredith outside and banged her later

thanks for the answers chooms, but I see one key difference from wayke: I did not pay. killed Royce the moment he made his joke about Dex, with a hit to the neck [body: 6]

this happens right after you flash the chip in front of him, but it's still on you. also, freed Brick. found evince on comp for the mole. still, it was Anthony who greeted me.

but then, itsmagic2010 also did not pay, did not use chip, and got Meredith. weird.

will test this out later today, as I'm replaying Act 1. got the chip, it's still infected. will try out different actions and see how it goes

Maybe killing Royce too early prevents the later meeting with Meredith? When you let Jackie-Dum Dum go on each other throats, Royce will show up as the final boss shortly before you leave the factory. Could be that winning this boss fight is key.

Wow the amounts of posts on this mini-quest is amazing. All it is about really is a 20 second scene in the motel :)

Nope. It's all about beating people to death with a dildo that has no upgrade limit and is therefore the most OP weapon in the game :P

Wait, she gives that as an item for going to see her? I still haven't gone yet, I was ehem waiting for another patch to dip my toes back in the game at all, but rofl. Damn, now I need to go.

I'm more interested to know what triggers which outcome, rather than the rewards. it breaks the immersion for me when events don't have logical triggers, but rather happen bc garme design hurr durr

like, for example, I should be able to clean the chip before the meeting and decide whether I will take the money. if I do so, Militech should find out and send someone after me, or just, you know, Meredith should call me out on my greedy bullshit. if I only clean the chip, they are non the wiser before Royce actually uses it.

I am also disappointed that finding out who the mole actually is, does nothing (I think). it would be cool to have the option to confront Anthony when you come out of the factory

I'm pretty sure it's been glitchy since launch, as others have reported this quest not working properly, as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/keb3hv/broken_questline_mj08_the_pickup_infected/

You are supposed to be able to get extra pay, and the point is impress her by finding the mole, as well as saving her life, but Gilcrest can be blackmailed with it, too for eddies, if you're going to have her killed..

So, I think the questline might either be broken or was left in an unfinished state at launch and still isn't quite fixed.

It's not much of a spoiler but you can find Anthony Gilchrist later in the game. He'll be naked and dead but you can find him after working with Meredith.
