Regardless of what you’re playing this game on it’s disappointing and far from what was advertised, spoken of and promised. This game is far from complete.

Now yes, if you have a new build or recent upgraded PC with good specs then you’re running this game on high or above and it probably looks great. Agreed. Buuuut overall the city is hollow and barren compared to what was talked about. And the AI is not even last gen - it’s like Fallout 3 or worse.

Aside from the absolute horrible and unacceptable state of the game on all consoles in its visuals and performance - regardless of what you’re playing in; this just isn’t the game we were shown.

Yes it has great writing, yes the bones of this game show that it could be great. But in its current state it’s just not. Not even close.

The city and the NPCs in it are nothing more than static noise to running to spots on the map. The extra things to do happen without any kind of organic anything. Cyber Psychos are super disappointing and so are many of the crime instances. They just seem like things to run to to get stuff. This was touted as a living world and it just doesn’t feel like that.

As an example the police. They don’t patrol ... ever. If you do something that they get alerted to they just magically spawn on top of you. No car chases and they can be fooled far too easily to loose them. It’s a perfect example of the horrible AI and how in-lived in the city really is. This is a foundational issue in the game. Not just an optimization and frame rate issue. It’s deep in the way the game functions. I really hope that can be patched. But I’m not holding my breath on that.

Systems like Crafting are unexplained and seem meaningless with how loot drops function. The menus are a bit off and I’m sure work better on PC. Controller movement is absolutely horrible and damn I can keep going.

I know CDPR has released buggy games before. And I know that unlike many they actually support their games for years. I have every confidence that they will patch this and that it will get better. But issues like how the world and AI functions I’m not so sure they can just patch out. I’m getting the feeling that Cyberpunk will be the black mark on CDPR for years to come. I truly hope I am dead wrong in that. Time will tell.

This is not a finished game and it is not the game they advertised. Not even close.

It sucks that this Beta released for purchase price and that I’ll have to wait another 6-12 months before the game is out to actually play it. I would have highly preferred more delays. I get that they have investors that call the shots on that and that business has to be done - but damn this is bad for them and sucks for us. Millions of us.
I would not call it great writing either.

SPOILERS

At the end of the prologue Dex sends you to the bathroom to wash up... no way he kills you would never have guessed.

In Penthouse when daddy shows up, sends away all of the guards and then tells his son that this betrayal is unforgivable.. face palm, what? Did you think son would just shrug and walk away?!?
Yeah, I agree.

Impressive = Night City
Disappointing = Cyberpunk.

Im certain that Cyberpunk 2 is tons of better. Metacritic is holding at 90, so thats nice. They got 90 mainly from technical stuff if asked from me.

I’m actually not impressed with Night City. Yea the size and potential is there but it’s empty and hollow. It’s not alive. Which was one thing they kept saying over and over again on how alive it was. It’s not. At least not right now.

Its empty and hollow because it lacks Cyberpunk.
The open world interaction is a joke. You can punch people in the face in front of the police and they do nothing.
Civs are either running away or cower in fear. Bad traffic ai. Or try to shoot at tyres, nothing happens. Cars even don't have windshield wipers.
The hole open world part is as shallow as it get's. CDPR could have just looked up how GTAV, a game from 2013, handled the open world part and interaction of the player with and in the world and how npc's react to what you do. But no, instead we get a world full of braindead npc's to give you the illusion the world is alive.
The story is nothing to brag about.
The further i progress, i get the impression that project Cyberpunk was way over their head and capabilities. I mean nearly eight years and that is what we get? I am fairly disappointed.

Yes. Absolutely. Nearly a decade of development and this is what we get. Even on high end PCs it’s unacceptable. Regardless of looks - it plays and feels really bad. A complete and utter disappointment.

We can agree to disagree. I think Cyberpunk 2 nerds to be built more on the Cyberpunk than Night City itself.

I have just finished the game in its entirety, it's a whole load of fun, but it surely isn't the game that we were promised. I feel bad because you can tell that there was a lot of heart and soul put into it but probably because of rushed development, crunch, investor pressure they released this half-baked version of what the game was going to be.

The city is not alive in one bit, you have the standard vendors, people say stuff here and there and virtually all shops that don't conform to this standard are closed or 'locked'. There is a ton missing like NPC interaction, the dialogue options are shallow and overall I don't feel like there is a lot of incentive to upgrade. Body upgrades and cars and stupidly expensive, after playing the whole thing (including all side missions by the way) you can perhaps afford a few upgrades and a high end car, it really stops you from experimenting and trying new stuff.

I dunno I love the game and I'm still having loads of fun but I can't help feeling it wasn't the game that they promised

Tell me one game what feels "alive"? These are called games, just because of it, these are games. Its devs job to keep the illusion up what CDPR didnt do.

Cyberway: Tell me one game what feels "alive"? These are called games, just because of it, these are games.
RDR2 you can clearly get the feel that in each town you visit there is a rythm, people come in and out of bars, drunks trip and fall, beggers on the street, some are washing their clothes, others tending to the farm. Hell even on the witcher 3 you had a sense that the town's folk had a purpose. Here, it's just bodies going back and fowards
Bugs and performance issues aside, this has been what's bothering me. I hear some people talk about "all the npcs all over the place", but I mean AC unity did that what? 5 years ago? And the npcs were just filler to make the world look more crowded like they are in CP77. They otherwise didn't add anything. I'd sooner take a game like Skyrim where you had fewer npcs but they felt like they actually lived and worked there. It's as if they spent all the effort with NPCs on the "celebrity" ones. Kojima, Cohh etc. and I hate how they made them essential npcs too.

My first interaction with the police was quite sad. I'm outside my apartment for the first time. Two women there. I wanted to see what happens if you attack/kill people in this game. It was just the two of them there, no one else. Within a second of killing one I had one cop behind me, two more down the other hallway...then I ran inside my apartment and one was waiting in there. Ofc you can't use weapons inside so I couldn't shoot him, he just stood there and after a minute vanished into thin air.

The most telling video is that GTA V vs CP77 one.

Also maybe I'm in the minority, but aren't lifepaths completely disappointing? The way CDPR built them up, I was looking forward to life as a nomad. Exploring the wilds at the beginning while slowly making my way to Night City, seeing it get bigger as you get closer...instead we get a 10-15 minute tutorial, a cut scene and then placed in the same spot no matter which life path you chose. It doesn't really give you a reason to re-play the game with all three, like so many kept talking about prior to release.

I do want to say I'm happy for people who enjoyed/enjoying the game. But when I see people say "best open world ever", I really have to ask how many open world games you've played :/
And as someone who played NMS (on PS4) at release, it's possible for a game to completely turn around in time. I expect bugs and performances issues fixed, that's a no brainer that CDPR has to do...but all the other things like the awful AI or a dead feeling world? Will they fix those?

RDR2 puts everything else to shame with it's open world. Comparing it Cyberpunk is very unfair. Rockstar has spent decades perfecting a certain style of gameplay. CDPR for as beloved as they are now, they didn't really hit the major leagues until The Witcher 3, and it's funny because the things people are complaining about in this game are exactly the same in the Witcher 3.

"It's raining it's pouring, Emperor Emhyr is snoring!" Do you realize how many times I heard that in the exact same spot and the dad saying, "Oh you can't say that!" Or whatever. Maybe you don't like The Witcher 3 and that's something you criticized when it released, but don't sit there and act like CDPR is commiting some act of sin with it's npcs. They are on par, or even better than the Witcher 3's. Everything in the Witcher 3's world was on repeat and paled in comparison to GTAV at the time, didn't stop people from loving it and I didn't hear any complaints about it either.

As for the actual world and style on display, it's extraordinary what they have accomplished here. But saying Cyberpunk is shit because it doesn't have the immaculate attention to detail that Rockstar puts in their world is like saying RDR2 is shit because it's very slow paced and meticulous to the point of tedium. You are missing the point and comparing apples to oranges.

...
So much this, I played it first time on my PS4 and honestly I don't think I appreciated this enough back then. After playing Cyberpunk's first 2 acts, I just went and bought PC copy of RDR 2 just to experience it again with this new perspective in mind.

That being said I agree it's unfair to compare it with Cyberpunk, it's just that the RPG and Sci-fi parts fall so flat that the only thing that's left to talk about is the open world.

No one said anything about sins. Npc's in Cyberpunk are not on par with Witcher 3 npc's. The storytelling is inferior to the Witcher 3 be it main or side quests.
CDPR had not to copy the gameplay from Rockstar, they had only to take lessons how a world should react to the things you as a player do. In Cyberpunk there is nothing but bad ai and no reactions other than running away or cower in fear. I mean the open world part of course. The combat system itself is fine and better than in the Witcher games.
There is no excuse for that, not after nearly eight years of development.
