Hello,

i have a new PC since 4 weeks.
Specs:
RTX4070/12GB VRAM
i7 13700k/ 8x5,1GHz
New SSD, fastest
32GB RAM/8k
W-11

My setting is on 1080p, first with Raytracing and DLSS. Shadows on low.
With RT the CPU has 92°C, without 86-90°C

That is to much, the fan runs very fast.
What can i do to reduce the temperature?

Thanks

Is it the CPU (processor) or GPU (graphics card) that runs hot?

I've never heard of a CPU with RT, so I'm assuming it's the GPU.
To measure your cooling performance, we need more information - which computer case you have, which case fans you have, and exactly which GPU model you have. For better cooling, you need better airflow.

Cheaper GPU models typically have worse thermal performance than the more expensive versions (example Asus Dual RTX 4070 vs Asus ProArt RTX 4070).

Personally, I use MSI Afterburner to set a custom GPU fan profile. The default fan profile made my Gigabyte Aorus RTX 3080 Xtreme go up to 93°C (The Riftbreaker, 1440p). With my custom profile, it only goes up to 63°C under the same conditions.

Hello,

my case is a beQuiet Pure Base 600.
GPU is fine, has only 54°C. My 1st fan wasn't so good, brings Baldurs Gate 3 up to 100°C on some cores. So i've called the trader in my city and he orders a new one. I watched in my tower today and saw that is a boxed cooler for the CPU.
I think that is the problem and i go to the trader on wednesday to talk abou it with him.
The Pure Base 600 is a good case. I got the big brother of that, the Silent Base 802.

Now I understand the problem - strange that the CPU would get hotter with RT on, but no wonder it gets hot if all it had was a box cooler. Damn, that's crazy with Intel 13th gen...

For a 13700K, I would at least use a Noctua U12S, preferably the U12A. Or to stick with Be Quiet, either a Dark Rock 4 (got that one myself) or Dark Rock 4 Pro, if it would clear the RAM sticks.

If you're looking to upgrade the case fans as well (I see your case takes 1x 120mm rear / 2x 140mm front), I can recommend the Corsair ML120 / ML140 Pro-series, if you can find it (end of life, sadly). A bit noisy, but they perform really well!

As a more silence oriented option, get Noctua NF-A14 PWM if looks is not that important to you.

That setup is overkill for 1080p.

As for the 13700k,

those CPU's tend to run hot, many folks report them shooting up to close to 100ºC while stressed.

Be that as it may there's no good justification for those temps while gaming, your cooler is likely not adequate for that CPU considering it tends to draw a lot of juice.

Beyond that there's a bunch of settings in the BIOS that may help bring those temps down but i'd check the cooler first before fiddling with those.

I agree (4070 + 13700K is entry 4K gaming), but maybe he's limited to a 1080p monitor.

And he said he has an Intel box cooler. That is absolutely nuts, and about the worst possible CPU-cooler! So I just threw out some cooler upgrade suggestions for him.

Yeah, i didn't give him any suggestions because i'm not really up to speed on adequate coolers for these power hungry cpu's but the stock cooler is likely the cause of his temp problems.

Thanks, i note the cooler and wanna have it :)
Hello,
today i've talked with the Trader from the PC Shop. He said that this temeperatures are normal now. If the PC doesen't shut down it is all ok, he shut down at 105°C. I tell him that i want to have one of your recommended fans. And he said that they are also boxed?
If i wanna have better temperatures a water cooling system is the best. And i ordered it. I don't wana play with a full rotating fan.
I am struggling a bit with your grammar, no offense, but I'll try my best to answer.

An AIO (All-In One) liquid cooler IS better at cooling, assuming it's of good quality, compared to a tower cooler / air cooler.
But the rest is down to personal preferance and what you can actually fit in your PC case.

In your Pure Base 600, you can fit a 360mm radiator in the top, which is much better than any air cooler. The best air cooler (Noctua D15) is comparable to about a 280mm radiator.

The installation of an AIO is about the same as an air cooler, depending on model.

Replacing the case fans can be a bit more work, as each fan has a power cable that needs to be connected to the motherboard.
If the seller says each fan comes in a box, if I understood it right, they do, but...so does the AIO? I don't really understand what the seller is talking about here.

https://noctua.at/en/nf-a14-pwm

As for the CPU max temperature, yeah, it shuts down at 105°C TO PROTECT ITSELF FROM PERMANENT DAMAGE!!
Yes, it technically can and will go up to 105ºC, but it's a really bad idea letting it get that hot. You don't want your CPU any hotter than 80°C max.

But in the end, it's all down to the user - if you're comfortable building your own PCs, I would install my own CPU-cooler and fans. If you don't want to do that, having a professional install an AIO for you is your best bet. But know that there are crappy AIOs out there, and they typically don't last more than 5-6 years before the pump dies.

With a tower air cooler, the CPU always has some cooling, and as I keep my PC running all the time, me personally am not risking it with an AIO.

Let's see what the water cooling system brings. He comes and take the PC at next thursday and after the water cooler is in, he brings him back. I havent a car to bring it, it is to heavy for a 63 y.o. man^^
Then be glad you don't have my case, the Silent Base 802 - that thing is heavy for everyone, no exceptions. ^^

Say, which AIO will the seller install for you? If it is a simple 120mm radiator installed in the back, that won't make any difference - you need a 240mm, minimum, to keep the 13700K under some thermal control.

I don't know anything about water cooling. But he said that it will have 3 fans.. :)
Great! Then it will likely be a 360mm radiator - that will certainly fix your CPU temperatures!

If it's the GPU, you could look into a custom fan profile via MSIAFTRERBURNER, or under-volt then overclock.
