When I try to update the game I get the following error message: "Runtime Error (at 65:1143): Interner Fehler: Failed to expand shell folder constant "userdocs"".

Then GOG scans my download files again and downloads 29MB and I get the same message. I can´t play the game and reinstalling didn´t help either.

Same issue, started with the most recent 1.1 patch, no problems before.

For tracking purposes:
- Looking at OP's location and error message: I am also using a german version of Win10. Game and GOG in english though.
- Found an attempt at fixing the core problem on Microsoft's forums which did not help.

%USERPROFILE%\Documents and 'Personal' in registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders do not match. The latter is the correct location of the 'My Documents' folder, the first is empty and never used.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Folks,

April 2023.... GOG has still not fixed that internal error of the Installer they use for updates of installed games!

Welcome to 21st Century.... ANY GOG update that involves any of the Windows "personal" folder (aka "Documents"," or "library folders" (aka pictures, Music, Audio etc) won't succeed if the file paths of these folders have been changed by the user and no longer correspond to the DEFAULT paths!!!

Windows is working perfectly well!
Any other Games installed ....work perfectly well!
GOG installed Games .... NOPE!

It's galaxy simply delete all the user files for Galaxy Log in re-add your games then do update
