SuccessDenied: There is a statement by CDPR lead graphics programmer Marcin Gollent, who actually confirms Windows 7 support for Cyberpunk 2077:
"Thanks to the introduction of DX12 support for Windows 7 SP1 that Microsoft introduced last year, the game will run on this system. We do, and will continue to, test Cyberpunk 2077 on Windows 7 in an attempt to iron out any edge-cases that might arise. Unfortunately, Windows 8 didn't receive its variant of DX12 libraries." Why do they not put this info in big BOLD letters here or on the game page? I'll hold of my purchase until this is all much more clear, but kudos to CDPR for helping make Windows 7 work on the game!
As for Windows 8, sadly it just comes down to the numbers of users and the fact MS pretty much killed it off before EoL. It was a shockingly terrible OS when it first came out, and never really recovered (in user numbers), a bit like Vista.
I think it's down to numbers - most people use W7 or W10, these days.
I think most people that used Windows 8.1 either moved to W10 or downgraded back to W7. Why anyone kept W8 or W8.1, that's beyond me.
Seriously, Windows 8's Metro UI was "meh." Had to use ClassicShell to keep that running right and well. W10's basic Start Menu is better and more desktop-orientated - but eh, still not ideal for me. I still use ClassicShell, even on W10.
Sure, W8 performed better than W7 - but its UI had issues. W10's a much better OS, in many ways - and well, as long as Microsoft doesn't keep pushing forced updates to fix one thing but maybe also break a bunch of other things.
I definitely do understand people's concerns here w/ say Spyware, tracking, and all of that stuff - but yeah, looks like it's W7 or W10 or bust here for Cyberpunk 2077 with official CDPR support, for now.
Would be interesting to see, if Microsoft ever decides to add DX12 support to W8.1 - but, I don't see that happening anytime soon.
I don't know if there's really enough numbers of Linux or Proton users right now, for it to run officially on versions of Linux. I'd be curious to see if CDP gets it going on Linux, Proton, or something of that sort officially - as that might make those happy that don't want to deal w/ W10...but it sure doesn't seem like it, right now.
I probably don't look or pay enough to Linux and whatnot - but does WINE on Linux support DX12 yet? Could it be possible for users to get CP 2077 running on Linux with WINE?
