Lin545: Answer about yourself and for >yourself<.
Lin545: Irrelevant. Any stack that sticks out of the network, directly or via chain, is vulnerable.
Lin545: Irrelevant noise.
What you stick into network, you stick into network. Please get basic information how exploit chains are run, things like metasploit. Solution is to remove system and hardware from network and minimize information exchange channels. If you can't, can try put it behind updated layers (classic heterogeneous stuff) with minimum on whitelisting, but there is no guarantee something still short-circuits.
I already told you an example, RPC service that advertises itself, runs privileged and vital to system. And that is a 20-year old example written by a teenage guy that circumvented all the classic layers.
---
Edit: RPC, not RFC.
---
Edit2: Discovered this today, brings distant memories.
Lin, so sorry, but for me that is still a non persuasive answer. Therefore lets have an another try: What use are security updates for Windows 10 inclusive Microsoft-spyware???Lin545: Irrelevant. Any stack that sticks out of the network, directly or via chain, is vulnerable.
Lin545: Irrelevant noise.
MFED: And in the case of Windows 10: what use are security updates inclusive Microsoft-spyware? I do need a logic, plausibel, rational, persuasive answer from you... user Lin545. We all do need a logic, plausibel, rational, persuasive answer from you. Yes, what use are security updates for Windows 10 inclusive Microsoft-spyware???
Lin545: Windows n is MS platform. They have full control over it. You can either agree to use it and trust; or disagree to use it and use alternatives. It doesn't mean you shouldn't be skeptical, but you have no control over its code (over what it does). What you stick into network, you stick into network. MFED: The same here: no Windows 7 support by Cyberpunk 2077, then the game is NOT a buy for me. I do not support spy- and malware like Windows 10!
irelevent: I hope there's no Win 7 support. It's just more work for the devs, and your inability to install a modern OS is on you. CP2077 should prioritize Linux well over WIn7 to be perfectly clear.
My wife and I have rather high end PC's she has win 10 pro and I have win 7.
Win 7 is just as good if not better.
Still I'll be waiting for full system req. before I preorder.

While I do enjoy Windows 10 a bit, I really miss the classic interface of Windows 7, plus I'm not a fan of having to turn off alot of the spying crap on Windows 10.
If anything else, hopefully the game supports Vulkan which will allow Windows 7, 10, and Linux users to run the game perfectly on every system.

Sorry for late reply. I have big suspicion that in the past I have myself been through the similar thinking model that you currently have. Its proprietary application (Windows 10), so its illegal to modify what they disallow, they are free to decide what to disallow and they are gods over their platform. They decide what comes into security update, what is spyware - they close the hole and silently drop the new one. Not saying that similar doesn't happen with FSF projects, bugs and defects produce nearly same effect as holes - often dropped through influence of same agenda, but at least its not in the policy. Some say that you can vote with wallet, but MS has specifically done everything to prevent it through maintaining the monopoly (large marketshare) from the very very beginning, so voting with wallet finds no application. People that started Windows Unattended (RyanVM and co) tried to track those changes, but in the long run - its just a lot of hassle; and its intended to give the hassle. If you still have energy to constantly manually inspect the traffic of your network and cherry-pick the updates - my hat off to you; but thats harder than maintaining Gentoo and Arch combined in the long run.
Better just use a different platform that matches your own policy on security. At least you will then have more control available.

Why would they support windows 7 for a game in 2020 when windows 7 is no longer supported by Windows or updated it would be to much work for a niche group of people holding on to the past so to speak, they could switch over to Linux if they feel windows 10 is to intrusive and restrictive as to what we can do in it.

Open your mind: What use are modern OS like Windows 10 with thousands "Interception points" (spying points) and security updates inclusive Microsoft-spyware?Post edited May 27, 2020 by MFED

lace_gardenia: Unfortunately, there is not much external software developers can do once an OS becomes unsupported by the manufacturer. CP2077 might still run on win7, depending on what APIs it uses. Have they even talked about that yet?
