engels78: Game will work with DX12, I don't know if only DX12? If yes I think Win7 can have problems with running it...? So my guess it can run Win 10 (EDIT: Win 8.1 does not have DX12 I was not sure, but now I am... DX12 Win10 only!)...

odomi2: I just read that microsoft will finally add support windows 7 and direct x 12
At least for some games
Of course Cyberpunk will not be one of them and will be Win 10 only. Hopefully CDproject will not do that crap to everyone, but I am starting to believe they will.

You sound a bit too sure
So it's been a while now since all this was a question that got raised, and this thread has floated around the front page of the topics ever since.

So why have we NOT heard anything from either GOG or the devs on this? That got me thinking and i can not really come up with a reason why they might not say 'sorry guys this IS going to be WIndows 10 only' unless maybe they do have plans to make it run on Windows 7 or Linux and are just not far along the path in that testing to be 100% it will work.

So until we hear otherwise, i think we can assume it most likely it WILL probably be able to run on Windows 7 or Linux, perhaps?

Let's hope you are right on it...
I agree with many posts here.. I want to delay upgrading to win 10 as long as possible (many reasons, but mostly because I don't want to loose an ability not to install specific updates), so I am really hoping, that Cyberpunk will not be an DX12 exclusive.. I am fine with some features (as ray-tracing etc) missing in DX11 version, but I am really hoping for an possibility to run this game on win7 PC.. I am not going to upgrade system just for one game, even game, that I will have collector edition...

Or..if game truly will be DX12 only, I hope for an exception from Microsoft for using DX12 on win7 as they did with WoW recently.. But hoping for this move in system after it's end of life isn't real I fear...

Off course there is also a possibility for this game not to run on DX at all (vulcan), but I fear, that it is too much to hope for... But let's see, CDPR was always "fans at the first place" and I found very hard to believe they betray so many of their fans by not letting them play they game just because of Microsoft (today, market share of win7 was 30,92%, and win10 59,82%, 30% of all PC users aren't so small number)...

I wont't upgrade to any new Windows OS until it is assured that I keep control of any of the data it gathers - and if and where those are sent. So if Cyberpunk won't be supporting Windows 7 (which is understandable as it is deprecated by January 2020) nor Linux CD Project won't be seeing any money from me. Other mothers got beautiful daughters too. That doesn't mean that I dont't want to play the game or that I'm angry about CD Project - I'm just not interested, period.
Oh well I guess I'll play this in actual real-life 2077 - when I'll finally switch to Win10.

Even Microsoft itself backtracked and Halo Collection with Gears 5 are also available on Win7.

I was too afraid to have to deal with the fact of being unable to play this game since W10 is a huge no-no for me. Actually it was the cherry on the cake that got me out of my IT job! There is no cake... There is no spoon... Or maybe?

So I started digging. And found. Do you know there is a version of W10 MS don't wan't you to know about or have? One of their own products event they talk against? This is W10 Enterprise LTSC. Meant for mission critical equipment that requires to be completely stable. So no constant major updates, store, cortana, pre-populated tiles and since it is an enterprise version you can "disable" (set to lowest setting) telemetry. There is not even edge in it as far as I could see.

Yes it works and no not necessarily easy to get nor cheap but wow this is like W7 with the new core. Installed latest nvidia drivers and it worked. Ran the latest DeusEx in DX12 and it runs.

I had an old 120gb ssd from my last upgrade so I disconnected my current raid with my W7 and data partitions on it and left only the ssd plugged. Installed W10 LTSC and activated, updated, installed drivers and disabled fast start - very important as well as disk check at startup - cuz it will keep crapping your W7 otherwise. Reconnected my raid and set it as primary boot device in bios. Disabled boot time disk check in W7 registry as well to avoid issue other way around.

Voila! Now I can just mash F8 at bootup if I want to start in W10 otherwise everything is as before. As a perk I can cross access my partitions so no need to have data double, steam works seamlessly as well. When I boot in W10 it's just to game so I usually just disable my network adapter to top up personal security. Since CDProjekt stuff is DRM free it should be playable offline.

So that's my answer to it. I started on a WANG computer at age 4 and then got a Commodore64 and so on. Spent over 25 years in the industry busting my back and frying my brain cells on MS lack of intelligence and I decided I will play Cyberpunk 2077 the way I intend it, end of story.

I just hope they will not get some stick in the wheel like nvidia drivers eventually requiring certain major W10 upgrades or even worse the game itself requiring certain updates or the MS Store OMG! Until then this sounds like a potential victory!

Interesting. Will definitely check it out. Thank you for this information.

A_B_raxis: Just to put an end to this: Could someone simply close this thread?

For the next months there will be no additional infos if Cyberpunk 2077 will run on Win 7/8 or Linux. If there will be new infos it would be better to open a new thread instead of continuing a over 120 replies long thread, that's mostly off topic since at least 40 posts.
Asking for someone to close this thread is not very nice. How about someone close this guys account, since he sounds like he belongs on the steam forums. If you don't want to be here, there is an Exit button at the top right of your web browser right there. One click, That's It. You are here like the rest of us are, waiting for one of the developers to clarify whether or not to screw over A BUNCH of the ! Loyal Supporters ! of GoG over this WINDOWS 10 B * * * S H * T ............

Been a while and still no answer.

I personally think if you have windows 10, you shouldn't be here arguing on this thread if your going to say WIN 10 For the WIN, you should be happy its windows 10. You get the game so go complain about another game elsewhere. Leave us Loyal Customers of GOG, who use WINDOWS 7, alone in peace waiting for our 90% Probable excuse about how windows 7 can't be worked in, and blah blah blah.
Oh boy, your life must be boring, if you have to look out for a 2 month old post to have anything to say. My request to close this thread actually had the goal of preventing meaningful posts, like those of matrack, from going unnoticed in this 8-page thread. That's why I suggested closing this thread and opening a new one if needed, so that it is clearer and because the discussion was heated up.

As for the rest, you do not know me and according to your statements you did not even read 5% of the posts in this thread. Do you really think that it is appropriate to ask for an account closure? Where I want to be and where I do not, I decide myself and frankly, I really do not care what you think about it.

Incidentally, I personally do not wait for the answer from CDPR. I said it at the beginning of this thread and was right it will take months until you get an answer if any. However, you are right that there will probably be no official Win 7 support with at least 90% probability. Whether the game really does not run on Win 7, is another question, but that's all in this huge thread, which you have surely read completely.

If you feel better, if you post any nonsense about other people to relieve your frustration over the lack of win 7 support, then do this, I do not care.

The problem is that it's not completely disabled. It's "reduced", but not disabled. Because the underlying hooks and reporting software are still there, it's possible for it to increase in the future should MS sneak that into a patch. They have done this in the past, disguising their spyware as a "security" update; because of this, I now treat anything coming from MS as if it came from some shady warez site (vet the contents carefully before installing it). Since "reduced" is infinitely worse than "none", I'm still not considering it.

Win10 also still has the problem that you can't pick which updates to install and which ones to reject. That might be less of an issue for me because I would always be using WSUS Offline to get my patches... but I remeber seeing somewhere that updates on Win10 are going to be multiple patch rollups rather than separate patches for separate issues. This does not help - especially given that they no longer seem to give useful descriptions of what each update does, or what it changes.

So totally agree. This is why I intend to use this OS offline only and for the sole pupose of running them some specific games as they *should* be playable offline, although down the line we will indeed get stuck unless some major industry change occurs. Sadly I do not have much faith in a positive change down the road if I judge the current state of... well... everything in this world.

Whereaminow25: Was going to pre order this tonight and when I checked the forums to see about any news first. I see a thread about windows 10 only or something.

Can we get a Actual Confirmation from one of the developers. It says " Works on Windows 10 " but does not say windows 10 only. There is still time for windows 7 to be added to the list since the game won't be released until next year. I would definitely want clarification on this. If this is going to have to make me buy windows 10 to play it, then you lost a preorder. Not everyone likes windows 10.

This would be the most disappointing news ever.
Windows 7 support is going to end in 14 of january 2020, corporations may receive a period of security support I guess, but the home user must update or live with what´s is the last version of the system. But, Windows 7 is ready to run a ton of games, I dont think Cyberpunk is going to push anything beyond the RTX as far hardware support goes. I am using Windows 10 and so far no big troubles.

The best pratice to today´s game industry is do not pre-order, just leave the enthusiats or impulsives consume the first wave and wait the first year of updates roll over. Not to mention, in the long run you buy a less expensive game.
