SargonAelther: It runs just fine without Galaxy for me.

When they released Phantom Liberty, they also released a new patch for the main game (Yes newer than vanilla 2.0), are you sure that you are on the latest version?

Did you install via Galaxy or Offline installers? Perhaps your downloads were corrupted? Did you try to tick the verification box in the offline installer?
avatar
schoolofmonkey: Right so if you have a corrupt offline installer, the game just won't install, it fails when it gets to the corrupt .bin file, so if the game installs it's not corrupt.

Downloading through GOG Galaxy will create a shortcut that opens Galaxy then opens the game, so sometimes you my not see it's been opened.

Running the game from the Launch Cyberpunk 2077 shortcut in the game folder will launch the game without Galaxy, this is where it won't get past the logo screens, if you have Galaxy open and minimized running the same shortcut will allow the game to load post the logos.

It's something in the PL DLC, removing the Galax64.dll results in a game that will open and run every time without GOG Galaxy even installed, but completely disables the PL DLC.
That in itself is strange as 1 dll shouldn't be the reason the DLC isn't working unless there's some form of DRM, if the DLL was a crucial for the game to run it wouldn't work at all without it..

For many like myself, the game runs perfectly with GOG Galaxy running in the background, but if I wanted that I would of just bought the game on Steam not GOG, I bought on GOG so I didn't need that extra layer of crap running as a overlay or in the background.
Maybe the installer files are intact, but the build itself that's stored within them is borked. For the sake of testing you should wipe the game folder entirely and try to install it via Galaxy, then launch the game directly without Galaxy. See if it runs. If it does, then there may be a difference in build between Galaxy and Offline installers.

I am perfectly aware of the type of shortcut it places in the Start menu when using Offline installer vs Galaxy.
Trust me, there was no hidden Galaxy instance running. I checked task manager and there was nothing in the System tray either.

For the shortcut business with Galaxy, it's very easy to deal with. Every single GOG game will create a shortcut (.lnk) file within the install directory (usually called "Launch GameName"). You can always just copy that .lnk file and paste it in your "%PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Cyberpunk 2077 [GOG.com]" folder. That you you'll have easy access to both Direct and Galaxy shortcuts, even when installed via Galaxy.

Did you actually do a clean install? Maybe you have some lingering mods?

I'm having the same issues on linux, where GoG Galaxy isn't even (officially supported). I posted about it on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/16syvvr/psa_cyberpunks_phantom_liberty_dlc_has_drm_on_gog

In a nutshell, the game runs fine on 2.0, but on 2.0_PhL it will crash during load if the GoG Galaxy Communication Service isn't running.

Since I manage my GoG games using the Heroic Games Launcher, I'm using the (highly experimental) comet to get the game to run.

Extremely frustrating, as I bought the game on GoG specifically to avoid DRM. Surely this is an oversight and not deliberate DRM? Either way, I hope CDPR fix the issue quickly.

You completely missed the point, don't matter where, how or what installers you use the same problem arises.
I've downloaded the first run of offline installers that needed the update and DLC, I've installed directly from GOG Galaxy, now I've downloaded the AIO GOG have up, all do the same thing is GOG Galaxy isn't running.

It's not my 13900k/4090, it's not mods yadda yadda as the straight V2 worked perfectly fine completely maxed out, since the Patch+DLC the problem started..

Well I don't know what to tell you, it runs fine without Galaxy for me and I know of at least one more person that never uses Galaxy and it's working for him too. Neither of us had to delete any DLLs.

I'll grab a random laptop that never had Cyberpunk installed on it and I will use the latest offline installer to check this out. I'm curious now.

Downloaded from Galaxy Client. Clean install. Windows 10.

Crashes during intro logos without Galaxy client running. Works fine when Galaxy is running in offline mode in the background.

I"m not modifying my dll's or changing my OS run modes to fix this. It should run without the client DRM running or GOG is shitting on their own thesis here.

You know what's funny, I just installed the latest offline installers without GOG Galaxy running and no DLC installed, crash at logos.
Started GOG Galaxy it doesn't even show Cyberpunk 2077 installed, it used to pickup already installed game, but I can run the already installed offline version of the game with no problems, it just seems to completely rely on GOG Galaxy for some reason.

To add, I tested this on my gaming laptop, offline install, crash, install GOG galaxy, used my wife's account (who doesn't own Cyberpunk), it just worked when GOG Galaxy was running, didn't even matter if you own the game.
Doesn't interact with the Galaxy overlay.
It's is strange, but if any management are reading it's something to look into either way.

Seems the micro patch that came with the DLC is now checking for the gog galaxy client to be running to work. Otherwise the game just flatlines.

pedrovay2003: As of the latest title update, Cyberpunk will crash to the desktop almost immediately after starting it if it's not launched via the GOG Galaxy client. You can get around this by deleting a .dll file in the game's installation folder, but if you do, the Phantom Liberty DLC isn't recognized when you get into the game. This means that as of right now, Phantom Liberty is completely unplayable without being logged into the Galaxy client and having it running. I even completely uninstalled both Galaxy and Cyberpunk, and this behavior was the same after reinstalling Cyberpunk and Phantom Liberty using the latest offline installers.

EDIT: Putting the main Cyberpunk .exe into Windows 7 compatibility mode seems to fix it, at least somewhat. I was able to start the game and had full access to the base game and the DLC without Galaxy running, but it was a crapshoot whether or not it would crash at the start like it does without compatibility mode on.
Yeah, W7 Compat. mode worked for me, to run CP 2077 Version 2.0 (without PL Expansion) to get it running on W11 without Galaxy.

Thanks for the tip.

Ok so I tried this on a brand new laptop that never had cyberpunk or Galaxy. I installed latest CP2077 and it worked. I installed Phantom Liberty and it worked. I was able to start the game and even start the straight-to-expansion new game. Everything worked. I even checked "My Rewards" and it was telling me to authenticate with Galaxy, so clearly Galaxy was not running.

THEN I installed the REDmod and that's when it started crashing lol. So there you go guys, I solved your mystery. Reinstall the game and DO NOT install the REDmod. REDmod is what causes crashing.

I use heroics game launcher and it doesn't off the option of choosing a specific dlc to install, so would I just go into the cyberpunk folder and delete the redmod folder?

That's the exact order in which I did things when I tried to reinstall the game using the offline installers after getting rid of Galaxy, and at least for me, it still crashed in the exact same spot, no REDmod installed. I did, however, find a consistent fix to this problem, which I've posted here:

https://www.gog.com/forum/cyberpunk_2077/a_fix_for_the_crashing

No idea what changed, but I'm glad there's a workaround for now.

I don't know if that folder is the only thing it creates. It may be modifying other files too. I've not looked into it that deep.

Whatever it is, it's clearly a very borked launch. That Pre-Order car is still missing too.

I didn't even notice that, I've been stuffing around with the offline rubbish since launch I haven't even played the game.
Even deleted my 12 hour in save games to see if that was the problem.

Is the car missing? I immediately got the text in the game telling me that I have the car, but I haven't actually tried to call it yet. I didn't start a new game, though, I loaded an old save, maybe that's why it worked for me.

Did you at any point install/repair the game via Galaxy? Because there's certainly no offline installer for it.
Also are you sure it was about the "Quadra Sport R-7 "Vigilante" and not any other car?
