For a period of time after updating to 2.0, Cyberpunk 2.0 would start fine after invoking it via a Desktop link.

Then, for some reason, it began to crash and would only successfully start if I first invoked (ran) Gog Galaxy and used
the Play icon in Galaxy.

I've allowed the crash reporter to send reports; but wonder if this is a known issue and has a known fix? I could post the crash report in the forum, if Gog staff requests.

Thanks.

Following up to my post above: I poked Galaxy and noticed an update; it downloaded and installed. Cyberpunk continues to crash without Galaxy being first invoked; but does load if Galaxy is invoked to run Cyberpunk.

I should have included that the installation is on a Windows 10 PC with all software at latest for Windows; Cyberpunk is a plain install from Gog...no add-ons.

Can anyone else confirm this? I'm on Linux (yeah yeah, it's not supported on Linux, but Lutris/Wine/Proton runs CP2077 just fine), and so I can't use GOG Galaxy at all. I also heavily favor the offline downloaders on principle. If I cannot actually play it without Galaxy (whyyyyy would you not be able to play it without galaxy??), that puts a damper on my desire to buy it. It's just a digital paperweight if that's the case.

I should point out, as above in my edited post, that my install is on Windows 10...so my report may not be relevant to you.

I can confirm this. The game crashes for me after couple of seconds of runtime (either at logos or at the menu afterI skip them). When I launch the game with GOG Galaxy running then the crash does not happen. Cyberpunk's reliance on Galaxy does seem like the most probable answer.

The one workaround I found was to ironically install a crack to remove Galaxy features altogether.
I was going to buy the expansion until I saw this.

Way to screw over your core customer base, and in a patch no less.

Pirates will break it in a day, but legitimate customers will get inconvenienced.

Haven't had this issue myself. Works with or without Galaxy, expansion included. Maybe try to fresh install with the offline installers?
Run it in Windows7 compatability mode
Here is the official workaround:

Let's hope that they fix this in the announced 2.01 patch.

I did see that; but downloading what are, for me, random .dlls....not a thing.

NB: I mean no disrespect to the poster nor to the person who offered their fix; it's just that I've rules around what I put on my machine.

Thanks,

Bugs are inevitable; it could be just that rather than a FU from Gog. An FU just doesn't seem their style....especially given their name: Good Old Games. No one else, that I know of, is doing that: preserving older, sentimental, games.

Thanks for following up; I considered it, but maybe there will be a patch. I'd rather not start over, right?

Does that actually work?

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping too. It sounds like it might have to do with the crossplay, rather than some sort of arbitrary check to make sure you're running Galaxy.

No, what helped me was not the offered DLLs (never tried those) but the official solution that was told by GOG support (under the bolded text in the link). The ones in which you delete (or rename) one DLL and rename a folder.

No, it does not have to do with crossplay. That was the first I disabled and game was still crashing for me.

1. Go to:

<...>\Cyberpunk 2077\r6\publishing\x64

2. Create a copy of the “GOG” subfolder next to the original one.

3. Rename the copy of the “GOG” folder to “null”

4. Go to:

<...>\Cyberpunk 2077\bin\x64

and delete the:

GameServicesGOG.dll"

FACEPALM HEADDESK....why didn't I catch this before I decided to delete Gog and the game and reinstall both?

Point and laugh! Go on, it's fine; I know you want to! lol.
