Recently, I spent a little time exploring the far northwest corner of the map in Cyberpunk 2077. I drove my V along the roads surrounded by the oil fields just a bit beyond the northwest edge of Northside.

While driving west along the area’s main highway—Highway 101, if I remember correctly—I passed a large roadside sign that read “Now Leaving Night City.” I continued to venture beyond that. But, pretty soon after that, the game displayed a message on its interface that basically said to turn back as there was nothing more there. That’s normal when players explore near the limits of the game map.

But then, soon after that turn back message, something happened that did not appear to be normal, but a bug. The game abruptly displayed red, green & blue pixelated static for about a second (the same effect it sometimes uses during the story or missions to indicate a passage of time or change of location). When it cleared, the game had placed my V, still in his car, back near the Now Leaving Night City sign, but just inside the city limits and facing east, toward the direction I had just driven away from.

So, I figured to just go to another location within the limits of Night City, far from any of the map’s edges. I continued east along Highway 101 for a while, heading well into Northside. Then, I turned to leave the highway—and the same red, green & blue static effect suddenly happened again. And, when it ended, the game had again placed my V back near that Now Leaving Night City sign.

I drove east along the highway again and tried to leave it using a differing road. Again, the RGB static occurred and, again, I found my V near the same Now Leaving Night City sign. Each time I tried to leave the highway (far away from the map‘s edge and using a different cross road each time) the static and reset kept happening.

I restarted the game and loaded an earlier save. The static and resetting have not occurred since then.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with the game unexpectedly and repeatedly producing static and resetting itself?

Is that a bug in the game? I can’t think of any other reason.

(I play the game on PC, via GOG.)

Yup, this is normal behavour when trying to move outside the map.

Depending on the location, you get teleported far away, the exact same spot but facing the other way, a medium distance but facing the same way as you were, or in some rare instances (which definitely has to be a bug) thrown FAR up into the air.

I've only gotten the more extreme results when driving flat out into a "forbidden" area. When walking, I've just turned away (or been turned away) when getting the blinking message of there not being anything out there yet.

I understand about being turned away once when entering the “forbidden zone.” But, then the game kept teleporting my V again even in areas that were well within areas that should be playable. Surely, that must be a bug of some sort.

Yeah, usually, when I see the go back; nothing here warning, I simply turn around on my own accord and return to areas that are more inbounds. But, sometimes, I’m curious to see what happens if I try to push the video game envelope, test the game’s limits and explore areas farther afield...

Oh, I see now. You're getting what I call the spawn loop - yeah, I've had too, and that is definitely a bug. When that happens, I typically get teleported underground and starts falling. After a few seconds, the game teleports me to the same spot and I start falling again. And so it goes.

In that case, I either enter a teleport console code to get out of it, or load an earlier save.
