Why did you decide to join games in development on GOG?
We’ve been selling the alpha version of the game since Nov 2014 through our website and continuously released major updates every two weeks since then. The amount of feedback and suggestions we’ve received has been an essential part of our design process. As we are approaching the finishing line we’d like to reach out to even more people and hear your opinions about our game and the design decisions we are taking.

Besides this we can use the money gained by your trust in our game to make our lifes a little bit easier. We’ve been developing The Curious Expedition without any involvement of a publisher, allowing only us and our community to make the creative decisions. We have financed our work with our own savings. We can keep doing this until we finish the game, but gaining back some money already now will not only help us sleep a bit better at night, but most importantly make sure that our focus remains on what is best for the game.

Approximately how long will The Curious Expedition be in early access?
This partially depends on the feedback that you’ll be giving and what content you would like to see added to the game for the final release.

What do you plan to change during development?
In terms of major features The Curious Expedition is already completed, and all the big cornerstones are set. Our design approach is very iterative, so you can expect many of the current features to slightly change and adjust, mostly based on your feedback and playtesting.
Some aspects we’ll work on are:
- While we already have a ton of content in the game, we’ll add even more locations, units, perks, items and enemies. With our procedural approach and the major features being set, this is just a matter of us pumping as much content into the game possible.
- Many of our location artworks are still rough placeholders, which will be replaced.
- The HUD is still rather basic and will be visually improved.
- Tuning such a big game is a huge task and will be ongoing effort even after the final release.

What is the current state of your game?
Since we released our first development version we’ve been receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback. There are many articles and Let’s Plays that show that the Curious Expedition is already fully playable and a lot of fun. We’ve been updating the game every 2 - 3 weeks since it’s first release, and we’ll keep doing this until we reach the finishing line.

Will the price change on release day?
The price for Games in Development and the final game release will remain the same, apart from occasional short-term special offers like the release week or GOG sales.

How can the community participate in the development process?
We’ve been in close contact with our community through multiple channels in the past. We have a forum for suggestions, bugs and general chat and we are very communicative if you want to reach out to us through email, twitter or our facebook page.

How often do you expect to release updates?
We will keep updating the game every 2 - 3 weeks until we reach the finishing line.

This looks wicked!
I wonder if controller support is a thing or will be a thing in future updates, since it looks like a grea title to play on the almighty couch!
Just watched some Youtube playthrough. My goodness this looks ABSOLUTELY amazing from what I see. I'll be buying this later on today.

Thank you GoG. I really like this "indevelopment" thing you have now because it really opens it up to so many fantastic titles I wish I could have but sadly are Steam only, and I refuse to use Steam.

Only GoG is good for me ! DRM free all the way !

i dont like steam either :D

but try to see steam as a 'demo machine', no devs wants to release demos nowadays (they did use demo's in the 70-90s) cause now they are afraid that the games wont sell after people played a small demo.

I bought many games just because they had demos in the past, i played a jagged alliance demo on my 1st pc and i loved it rigth away, the best way is a playable demo to see if you like a game, youtube can only show visuals, but a playable demo is the best to see if a game suits you.

i did not know how and if i could play dark mirror 3 , i knew what dark mirror 1+2 were like
(if the 3pp wont be playable for me regarding my (game)motionsicknes, so when i saw it on steam very cheap, i got it installed it on XP, and voila, i could play the game and got it here at GOG.

Maybe , just maybe in the future i might buy win 10 and use that piece of windows junk to install steam
on, so i can move my old retail XP version and use win10 for steam only.

We know that win 10 phones home like crazy, but if theres nothing on it except steam (also relative of E.T) , then E.T (win10) can phone home as much as it wants cause there be nothing on it except cheap steam games to phone home.
Anyways, maybe ET (win 10) can call home with steam?

win7 will then be used to play all the good old gog games.

Minimum system requirements - Windows: XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: 2 GHz
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: 1280x720 minimum resolution, OpenGL 2.0 Support, recommended dedicated graphics card with 128 MB of RAM
Storage: 150 MB available space

such low req, even XP is supported but the screen starts at 1280 ?

how about 1024x768 for starters? i have lots of new games on GOG that support 1024x768
i have lots new games on gamersgate that support 1024x768
i have 400 cd/dvd with casual games so thats 400 tot 600 casualgames, all support : 1024x768

as lowest resolution, how come you start at 1280 ?
underrail has 1024
punchclub has 1024
and the list is endless :D

I see steam as horrible DRM, forced updates, online needed, no thank you....no steam EVER. GoG and DRM free only.

yep its awful, horrible, drm loaded, and all the bad words that exist arent enough to tell how bad steam is.

But i sometimes buy new casuals at 89 cents, thats because they arent out yet drm free on cd, as soon as these are on cd/dvd i buy that game so basically my steam account isnt a collectors account but just a sort of demo acount :D

50% of the shitty games i have on steam are drm free, yep steam has old shit that seems to be runable from any windows, only needs a download and install from that horrible client, but that is only installed long ago on my old win xp, i mainly use my win7 so thats why i dont really have a serious steam account maybe i have spent 15 euros on 40 or 50 games , of which 50% is drm free so these can be deducted from the crap leaving the account only to be crap :D

Anyways, i dont spend cash on boose, sigarettes, dont go to cinema so basically i 'save' alot of money on things that arent good for the health.
I know people that spend 50-90 euros on cigarettes a week thats a lot of cash (52x50=2600 euros or more )
2600 euros wasted on cigarettes can buy lots of games :D
I'll never allow a third party program to control anything, not steam not GoG Galaxy nothing....EVER.

One person decides what to download, and when and IF I should. That person is me. I only support direct downloads where they are all manual. GoG has this so for me, this is perfection.

I am glad Galaxy is there for people who want achievements and auto updates etc but I certainly do not want auto ANYTHING. I like my notification, and when I can afford the bandwidth on the time of the month I might download it. Simple and perfect :)

This is why I love GoG so much.

Well, that is how I have seen Steam years ago, but the truth is that most games from my Steam Library (+80%) are running fine without Steam. It is up to the developer/publisher what kind of DRM they are using. BUT they are not forced to use one.

Meanwhile I love the comfort which Steam is offering, only a separate Installer package for the games would be nice. Desura was great at that. So if possible I go for a bundle with an Installer package plus a Steamkey. GOGs Galaxy isn't somewhere close to the Steam Client yet or doesn't even exist (Linux).

This will not work with EA games!

I don't care about achievements, but having a client which allows you to invite friends easily to play a game without the hassle to exchange IP-Adresses, open ports and all that ****, isn't that bad.. The auto updates are a great comfort especially with EA-Games. There is currently no better platform for EA-Games then Steam except you implement your own auto update mechanism in your game.

Yes, thats why I loved and supported GOG, but with all the changes over the last years (DRM, Regional pricing, aso.) including an awful Linux support. I kinda dislike GOG nowadays.

Unless there is NO online activation I will not buy the title so yes it locked me out of EA a long time ago. I think the last title I got from them was Sims 3 because it had a CD key which is fine but I will never support a solitary thing that needs online activation EVER.

Direct downloads or nothing :) Hence GoG :)

Erm... with EA I mean Early Access and not Electronic (F)Arts :)

Early Access I would only go for direct manual downloads. Nothing else. EVER. So no STEAM *ever*, just GoG as I can "archive" previous version with manual downloads.

GoG model is PERFECT

I only wish I could get Take on Mars :(
Been trying all morning to start a new thread on here but it does not work, it always freezes :( I can write in here but not create a new thread here...arrghhh

I confirm, same problem for me. I have already and recently created threads on other subforums.

As creating thread is impossible here, I post my first feedback here.

I discovered very recently the game and only played about 6 characters, all failed reach final expedition. This wasn't a problem because I was playing for the fun of expeditions not really trying hard to win, just discovering the game and its mechanics.

At first it seems quite close to Renowned Explorers: International Society, but in fact it is pretty different, that's cool.

My first experiment of "Expedition games" was Expedition: Beyond the Walls. Despite this phone game was rather tiny and not really finished, it was fascinating how well it succeed capture a thrill of expedition. Later the dev participated or created the Kickstarter for Expeditions: Conquistador. It's a good CRPG and some expeditions elements are very interesting but it failed recreate well the thrill of expedition of Expedition: Beyond the Walls. There's been also recently, Renowned Explorers: International Society, which is pretty cool but it's not the same feeling of expedition than had Expedition: Beyond the Walls.

And then there's The Curious Expedition, and for me it's the only one that captures the thrill of expedition as well and better than Expedition: Beyond the Walls. I quoted some relatively similar mechanisms as the dices but it was used on any events not just combats, mules, equipment with influence on dices or some events, few more. But EBtW was just a tiny game and TCE has already a lot more contents, many deeper mechanisms and even if not finished and probably not balanced yet, it still feels much more like a finished game than ever did the tiny EBtW.

From first plays this list seems pretty coherent. I don't see the problem about artwork locations for me it's fine. It's more that they could be extended than changed.

I would suggest add those dev topic:
- Work a bit on the UI design, it's already quite good, but there's some points that could be polished a bit more.
- Work much more on Hall of Fame/Graveyard, not just for making it more cool but also to provide more details on the final expedition team and the cause of end. Allow see all members of the team and even see their details. I understand too many details in such screen involves problems in managing game updates and changes, but I don't think it's that hard to manage and I think it really worth it. Eventually also a list of expeditions done with few details for each entry in Hall of Fame/Graveyard.
- I'm against Achievements but they generally don't bother me either if they can be silenced/invisible in game. BUT in such type of game, I feel that if they are integrated to the game (not just for Steam/Gog) this can add a lot. In Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic I felt them very cool.
- Unlocks, I don't like at all unlocks because I feel they are artificial ways to increase play duration, often a (true) Roguelike with unlocks is unbeatable before to have unlock some key elements and I dislike that a lot. BUT I think unlocks can add to such games. I suppose the game has at least a few (like more adventurer) but it can be expanded and highlighted more by showing to player what he can unlock. Example of games where I found unlock cool despite I don't like such thing, Invisible Inc, Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic.

Not for me. I despise multiplayer. I only want single player offline. Happy to do manual updates forever so *I* can be the sole person that decides the versions I play and if I want an old one then I have an old one.

:)

Forgive us for being off topic a little here. I wanted to create a new topic in this forum but it still won't allow it :(

As this is in early access how do we upgrade our game when a new version is released?
