I just put the beta rewrite live on the main GOG branch, and it's caused consternation! I'm looking at it now.
If you want to go back to the old version until things settle down, read on.
(1) REVERT TO OLD VERSION: switch to the beta: cultist_classic_original_ui
(2) RETRIEVE YOUR CONVERTED SAVE: The newer code converted your game to a new save format, but your old save is still there, in a format like
save_txt_imported_02_03_2022__10_14.txt
Rename it to save.txt and you're good to go.

Q. Where's my save file again?
A. Open the game and hit BROWSE FILES from the options menu. On Windows it's C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Weather Factory\Cultist Simulator
Q. So can I stay on this original version forever?
A. Sure, if you like. But the new version has a bunch of improvements around save file utility and modding, and the old one won't get any more updates. So you'll probably want to switch back when things calm down.
Q. Which will be when?
A. Days or a week? I'm still sorting out what's gone wrong. This has taken me by surprise because I've been testing the new version the beta branch for months, and this is the first time I've seen most of these problems reported. I guess people thought it was just the beta being a bit weird?

A. There's a fix for them in this new beta version. Hold tight.
