I've averted some crisis by talking about winter with the investigators. Even if they are idealistic, and cannot be defeated that way, it still produces reliable dread in 60 seconds. Also notoriety, but that's the cost of it.

Some people say that working with "decrepitude" gives dread too, but I never tried this (i watch my health and affliction too closely).

Well, I'm not sure if those methods can be called fair but they certainly are effective ways against both fascination and dread.
First, use fascination while promoting followers. Just keep a bunch of unpromoted guys, then promote them with lore of your aspect and put fascination into trappings slot. It accepts any kind of influences and devours it.
Second, sacrifice fascination in rites. If you have enough Grail lore, you can summon tons of Raw Prophets just as a a way to dispose of fascination (it has moth aspect).
