Actually after looking more into this, it appears that maybe not all not all forms of SecuROM are blocked on Windows 10, but most are. Instead all forms SafeDisc DRM are blocked. Still the point remains, these look to be nothing more than dummy registry entries. No actual SecuROM appears to be installed in the GOG version.

That doesn't add up then. SecuROM does not work on Windows 10 according to MS, it actually doesn't even work on Windows 7 or 8 either if your have gotten the latest updates. But you can got through some steps to force it.

More than likely securom version 7 then, disc based check, it's the only version i know that runs on win 10.

Will the release promo be extended as long as these issues aren't resolved yet? I'm still on the fence about buying the games, and these issues make me shy away from buying even more ...

Just wondering if something was missed in Cysis too, as CrysisLauncher.exe triggers a UAC dialog and tries to run with admin privileges when it starts -- despite the fact that the game itself does not need admin privileges at all, and works perfectly fine if run directly from the /bin32 folder (you can save preferences, play, and save your game progress all without admin rights.) So what exactly is the launcher doing that it needs administrator-level permissions?

Games shouldn't ever have admin rights during regular use -- only the installer should. :)

I was wondering why UAC was being triggered by the CrysisLauncher. Does the 64-bit binary need UAC to run?

Most GOG games demand admin privileges by default. Some of them will quit demanding admin if you uncheck "run as admin" in properties.

My honest opinion? > Never. EA isn't going to waste resources removing a copy protection on a 32bit Exe when the 64bit one works fine. If they didn't bother in 3 weeks time, I doubt they ever will.

When EA thinks it's worth it? They don't have a lot of reason to release a working version if they don't think we'll demand our money back for a broken one. Or, if we are too much trouble, they won't release any more here at all, preferring instead to stick to selling defective products to people who haven't figured out why we never ever ever buy anything from Origin.
