In-game version is 2.0.1 while GOG says it's 1.4.
lucky you ... the non galaxy version is still 1.2 from wednesday ... at least the galaxy version is getting the Updates faster :)
Despite the different versions it smells the same...
Customers who prefer to use the offline installers can only dream about version 1.4 or 2.01 - we still only see version 1.2 in our account libraries :-(...

I don't understand the problem. I have Galaxy, and I patch with Galaxy, then I quit Galaxy.
Then start the game with the exe file. No problem.

Sounds like people are too used to the other launchers to understand the difference.

The problem is gog's policy regarding the publication of new versions/updates for their games! They offer galaxy updates earlier than offline installer files and regarding "Sounds like people are too used to the other launchers to understand the difference." you might find out in the forums here, that there are still a lot of people who do not want to have ANY kind of launcher or client installed on their PCs. We just want to have pure installation files and gog is always (very) late providing these files compared to galaxy updates.

And that drives people mad because gog always claims that those customers who do not want to install launchers or other unwanted client software will always have the option to use offline installers. While that is true, those who use offline installers are treated like second class customers by gog because they always have to wait for a long time until they get updates...

It is obvious that gog is pushing people to use their launcher/client (galaxy) for some time now and they do not understand that offline installers are now the only difference their store has to offer when compared to others like steam... If I would not mind to have a client installed on my PC I might just as well buy my games from steam where updates are offered more frequently and prices sometimes are more favorable than here...

I'm with you, but dont let us tell about prices.
We all know, that they are way to low on both platforms for smaller games

Well, I don't use, nor need, the galaxy launcher to play the games.
It's there only for update purposes, and quick access to forums etc.

In comparison, for offline play, steam requires you to go offline first, but it has to run in the background.
Galaxy does not. It does not launch a dll that requires your online connection, nor keep tabs on your habits.
No part of it need to run at all.

That aside, the main issue here are the publishers that treat players as paying beta testers, so game devs can fix their shoddy work post-launch. And it seems people are okay with that. Consequently you require a lot of small updates.
Every new game is like that, and with the unity engine, crappy school project asset flips seems to pop up at an alarming rate.

Point is, there are a lot of new games that need constant updating. The developers need to make separate installers for every game platform, so it's only natural they, the developers, use the easiest one with the most beta testers, I mean, early access players, available.

So there's no point in keeping installation files of a game that doesn't even work properly on your PC, and for most new games, updates are always around the corner. In which case it's more than reasonable to keep the offline installer on hold.

Because v2.0.1 is not very great. In fact it's freakin' annoying. There are WAY too many issues to call that abomination a finished game.

Frankly, I don't feel GOG is at fault here at all.
