Hi everyone,

I am interested in playing one of the two: G-Police (1997) or Crime Cities (2000).

It seems Crime Cities is not universally accepted as better than G-Police, despite the former being more recent.

Can someone help provide some useful points of comparison between the two? Beyond graphics of course...

I like games with a strong atmosphere and at least some story to go with it. Extremely repetitive gameplay can turn me off if those elements are not present.

Thanks for any opinions!
I think you will like G-Police more, Crime Cities is more repetitive in nature than G-Police as it has more varied missions, just look for playthroughs on YouTube
Even though Crime Cities is more open world than G-Police, there is not much else you can do beyond upgrading your car and do missions.
Both games don't have much atmosphere imo, just the usual sci-fi fluff, though G-Police was a Psygnosis game so the graphics have aged better artisticly than that of Crime Cities.

Many thanks for your post, Strijkbout! Interesting points, I guess that means the balance is tipped in favour of G-Police...

cheers!

You're welcome!

In Crime Cities defence I would like to point out that I've barely played it, every time I loaded it up I was put off by it's oversensitive controls.
This might be solvable though so if I played it more maybe I would like it more.

Games you might also be interested in because they contain flying cars in a futuristic city.
B Hunter (similar to Crime Cities but worse)
Beam Breakers (decent racer)
NY Race (Play Station 2 but from what I've played it's rather bad)

Thanks for the suggestions! :) and in light of what you said, I think I will still try to give Crime Cities a chance seeing as it is easy to get and install thanks to GOG.
About sensitive controls: would a controller/joystick be much better than mouse and keyboard for this kind of game? Seems MS SideWinder 3D Pro was the way to go back in the day...

Of the games mentioned above, I only knew about BHunter - which seems to fail pretty hard on storytelling.
Might check Beam Breakers :)

EDIT: since I intend to eventually play more games with 6 DOF (like Descent 3), I decided to go ahead and buy a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X... will try this new toy with Crime Cities tomorrow! :)

EDIT2: for Crime Cities, the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X is unfortunately less good than mouse + keyboard. Just goes to show how arcade the game is... yes the controls are very sensitive but you get used to it.
