I'm not sure if this is exactly related to your question, but Amai posted about an automatic 16-bit color switch using QRes. It's designed to work for Docking Station, but the concept should hold true for Creatures 2. Maybe it will be useful to you! I have to dig into the setup of my Creatures 2 game some more. I know I have it set up to automatically switch back and forth between 16-bit and 32-bit colors, yet I did this without QRes. I'll have a look as soon as I have some time and will let you know if I have any other suggestions!

And just for reference, which version of Windows are you using? Sometimes the answers differ based on your operating system. The game can be a little finicky when first setting it up, but I've always thought it's worth it. Best of luck!

Luckily, in lieu of actually dealing with my problems, I've sucked it up and am trying to deal with my C1 Norns' "Sadface Food Disorder" that caused me to download C2 in the first place. XD

(By the way I watched all your C1 videos like a year ago, that's the reason I started getting an interest in Creatures. Think tat was before you has a website. Never thought I'd see you or your channel again. xD)

I should have some time by the end of the week to really dig in and see if I can figure out what I did. I'm all about not downloading stuff if I don't need to, too!

That's awesome that you watched my videos: Hope you liked them and could put up with my constant chatter! Ha ha! Discover Albia has been around since 2010, although I've taken plenty of breaks. And if it helps any there is a newish forum dedicated to all things Creatures. Sometimes you'll get a quicker response to help questions there, since not too many Creatures players tend to check the GOG forums on a daily basis.

After I choose a world from the World Switcher, I get this message:

"Creatures 2 can only run in High Colour (16 bit) video mode.
Do you wish to change to this mode now?."

By choosing "Yes" my display automatically changes to 16-bit. Odd thing is that I know that in the past it would switch back when I quit, yet it doesn't seem to be cooperating anymore. Very frustrating! That saves one step, yet it's still annoying to have to manually switch back to 32-bit after I quit. I've been searching high and low for any other solutions I may have used, but unfortunately it seems like QRes is the only thing out there. My apologies for not being able to be of more help. If I can figure out how I got it to function at one point, I'll let you know!

Dang. If you have Windows 8 you probably had it set to "run in 16-bit colour", while Windows 7 has only the option for 256 colours. if that wasn't it, I have no clue what it could have been. o.o
